I know for sure i want the m17x, but I'm not a gamer.
I will be using it for movies, downloading, browsing, those type of things.
I don't need any accessories except for the remote.
I want power, & display picture quality, for a decent price.
I don't know if i should get the 1, 2, or 3 years warranty
I want the 1gb, cuz i will upgrade to 4gb later.
So i was wondering what would be some good choices for me seen as I'm so confused?
Thanks
-
so are you buying m17x or what?
-
I usually go for 1 year warranties..statistics show that if a product is going to die/have problems it will in the first year.
-
-
But seriously, if the OP is so confused and isn't going to use it for gaming, why are you getting a m17x? Why not something more reliable, like a Thinkpad or a Sager? -
I sure hope my baby last a long time tho lol -
All i really want is a really good lcd screen. -
I guess my question is....if your not a gamer why are you getting a m17x.........you could save yourself a ton of money gettin something else
-
as much as i like AW - i have to agree with this and what a few others said...
no need to spend the $$$$ on the AW if your not gaming...you could get another system with a great screen and other upgrades for a lot less....
just my .02

lmao, i just returned mine, it was sick, except for the screen quality.
I even got the lg lcd, still sucked, I'm very picky, lol
I miss her actually!
But it's not worth it to look at for that money i put into it, dam u dell! -
-
lol if you really want the AW 17 then i would go middle road for cpu, next to high end for gpu, get the 1 gig RAM and upgrade from newegg or tigerdirect.
get the blueray if your going to watch movies (kinda futureproofing - sorta) and the high end screen they offer.
seems the best for what you want. -
Here a few facts to know about the M17X
1 You can upgrade cpu
2 You can upgrade Ram
3 You can upgrade both GPU
4 The dual 8600 is faster then a Single 8700.
5 17 inch screen.
6 Runs cooler.
Problems cleaning gpu Fans and cpu Fans. -
-
One more small fact there will be a new gpu comming out which is better then the 8800. So save your money get the 8600 and then upgrade to the 9000+ setup
-
next to high end i said....one step below...
-
Like would my lcd screen picture look the same with a 8600 gfx card? -
It Picture on this laptop looks great on my system. I only went low end due to no credit card and I dont want to buy something I have to make payments on.
Plus the sound system better then Most laptops.
PCmark06 I get 7000
Processor caclculations per sec 5.3
memory (Ram) Memory operations per sec 5.1
Graphics Desktop performance for windows Aero 5.9
Gaming graphics 3D business and gamming graphics 5.5
Primary hard drive Disk Data transfer rate 5.9 -

The Apple MacBook Pro will have a better screen than the m17x.
-
Why do they have such good screens? -
-
Hum Here a list why I dont like mac.
1 They dont show OS errors so it make Tech longer time to fix a common problem
2 They can not be upgraded unless you bring in Mac store and you waste money there
3 that Apple picture is not as nice as the Alienware head. -

You shouldn't. A single 8600M GT will handle everything more than fine, you're getting two in SLI with the m17x so either way it's overkill.
-
-
i said get the "next" to high end in my original post...not the high end.... -

BTW, the base system with a HD upgrade will be way more than enough for just watching movies and surfing the web.
-
-
-
This thread gives me a headache just reading.
Just buy the m17x with the base configuration. You won't be needing anymore than that. And no, there will be no picture quality difference between the 8600m GT-8800m GTX. -

Your screen will look the same no matter which card you choose.

-
Thank you all very much, i think i know my configs now

At a curiosity, you'll really pay double for a notebook that will be no better than the hundreds of other notebooks out there (with dual core processors and discrete video cards at least) for what you plan to do with it just for its' looks? Not that it isn't a great notebook, but that's really overkill.
-
similar to what michael said is what i was leaning you towards the next to high end gpu....
you do not need all that processing power if all you are going to do is watch movies, surf, and the like.
the ones just below high end (next to and one below that) should be more then capable to do the job you require from your list.
you will also save $$ by not needing the high end one.
when gaming, the higher end gpu's provide certain elements that gamers 'kill' for....lol -
Well i guess i have no choice to get AW cuz i had a dell m1730 & that flopped from a bad screen.
And now i got a $5000 credit from AW... -
One Fact no one listens to. The guy want low end. I already save Money upgrading my laptop.
-

$5000 credit? Dell gave you that when you refunded your XPS M1730?
With that, I would get a base m17x for you and ship me a m15x. Please?
If not, it would probably be a cool idea to buy a base m17x for a desktop replacement and the m15x as a portable notebook with great battery life. -
-
So i asked AW for the same & got it. -
-
It is possable benbeck08. Dell Own Alienware. So transfering store credit would be easy.
Hay thanks Oceanus Check on Youtube and type in Tokay Geckos and you see some mean Videos.
I need help deciding please?
