Just want to give some love out there for this old workhorse. Yes I keep drooling over the new models, but then I look back to my trusty m9750 and I keep getting reminded what I would be giving up:
1. It is non glossy. Stealth black paint will NEVER go out of style.
2. It is a light 17 inch gaming machine. I mean it is only 3.85 Kg, compaired to 5.7 for the M17x.
3. It is highly supported, modded, proven machine. All the drivers are in one thread (XP, Vista and 7), overclocking is clearly explained, and there are no latency problems, DPC or otherwise.
Yeah, its outdated, but then again I can still run every DX9 game I want at medium to max settings (always max res of 1920x1200) with my SLIed gtx 7950s. The screen still hasnt a single dead pixel and colors are good. And there are no dang chicklet keys (also true for M17x, thank god)!
Truth is I just wont upgrade until this machine is dead. There isnt enough innovation in the industry to push limits beyond what I already have.
So if you still have the BEST laptop alienware ever offered (flame away), sound off!
In the meantime, I will be preparing my article for the "This is your life m9750" piece.![]()

Well, if it doesnt lock up nor stutter in games freeze up when you unplug the AC adapter, doesnt have latency nor flickerring issue, you must have loved it
Cheers mate -
If you have no issues and it's meeting your needs more power to you. I still use a 4 year old Thinkpad that is the same generation as the m9750.

Good for you and alienware. Hope i can say the same thing in 4 years.
-
yeah, i loved my m9750 but i moved on from it... and i gave it to my mother actually - she has no clue of the capabilities of her laptop!
-
Just like me and my M17.
I love it now even with the new models, and I'll still love it in a few years time right up until I replace it in about 3 years. And I'll still love it even then.
And I agree with the stealth black finish, both M9750 and M17, it kicks ! I'd rather have my stealth black finish than anodised aluminium any day...(call me crazy but it's true) -
Well as much as I have the same kind of love for my M17 I cant help but want the latest machines.
Although I too would give my M17 to a family member rather than sell it to somebody I dont know.....that would be unbearable.
Keep enjoying your machines. -
well,we are thankful if we can have the latest and the greatest in all,in the past i always wants the latest and the greatest,until one day i met a person who still using old Pentium 4 and making money out of it,and i realize,it's not always the latest and the greatest,but what can you the best from it.

+1 Rep to the OP.
M9750 was actually my first MAJOR computer purchase, and I still love it.
With the economy right now, I have yet to build my dream desktop, but for the meantime I LOVE my m9750.
It has been with me through thick and thin. Never had any problems, no overheating, no crashing, very stable computer both inside and out.
Decided to give it a little treat and put Win7 on it, and haven't looked back. Plan to upgrade RAM next.
But other than that, this laptop is still my pride and joy. I will fight till there is no fight left in me to keep it up and running, and I swear they will bury me with it. -
i'm very happy for you,x tank,i hope your m9750 will survive for ages -
the W830, W840, 850 and W851-Di are all amazing machines
-
-
830 = M9750
840 = M17
850 = M17x from dell
851 = M17x -r-2
They were all made by Flextronics. So they are sequentially named -
btw moo,you selling your m17X R2?????? -
Same Here!
Love my m9750.
still hoping to upgrade to HD3870 and T7600!

I actually really appreciate the fact that you're still happy with your laptop. I used to drool over 7950GTX SLI. Once something new comes out, I tend to start thinking that my hardware is obsolete. Maybe I'll keep this one until the cows come home (or at least until it's paid off).
I still love my m9750
