If that's you reasoning then you'll never buy a computer. Computers are one of the fastest changing technologies around; and you can expect upgrades in some form at least every 6 months.
Buy your computer for the moment and enjoy it. When there's a significant upgrade, you can decide then if you need it or not. Because we're talking laptops, it should be a sometime before the M17x becomes obsolete. -
Yeah, I'm perfectly happy with montevina right now - especially since I got the P8600 to 3GHz
I am contemplating waiting for the 4870's in CF.... -
There is one thing I do not understand. I thought it was impossible to upgrade a CPU on the M17X.
How do you buy a QX9300 and put it into the M17X? -
The processors are definitely upgradable. They have been on Dell's and Alienware notebooks for a while now. I bought mine with a P8700 and installed a x9100.
Lots of different Qs here. This thread lost it meaning. -
What LCD are you talking about? -
I did not know that. Is there a video manual somewhere on the net which can show me how to do that?
-
"The Moo" is the king of that information. You might want to PM him or wait for him to respond.
-
Download the service manual from support.dell.com and have fun!
-
I read a few thread about finding the QX9300 on Ebay at $400 but I was not able to find one for sale. -
It tells you how to get to the proc but not how to replace it. Important parts like cleaning and thermal paste I believe are missing.
-
M17X seems to be a winner based on early reports but think i will hold off until the next major change especially looking for a LED screen.
-
I don't think that it's going to happen... At least in this model
-
BigX333,
Agree. Maybe the next model M17XS.
I think I might wait on M17x?
