I want to buy the m15x but I've been looking at the reviews and they are bad as hell( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=254627) but some reviews state that the problems were attended to and fixed in the newer modes but does any1 know if this is in fact true. Or should I buy the m17

EDIT: does any1 know the exact date for the release of the new m15x

If you aren't going to carry the laptop outside of your house invest in an M17x.

So far I've seen nothing that warrants buying an M15x.

Best is too wait a month or so, the m15x refresch is on the way and will be far superior then the current one. Check out this post for more info on that. Or an m17x is the best laptop in the world so you can always buy that if it fits your needs.

There were no fixes introduced in the m15x. The m15x is, as it was when it came out, a flawed machine. As EvilGenius says, wait for the new M15x. It's made at the image of it's big brother (the m17x), so it should be a solid machine.
As I said, the "old" m15x is a very bad choice.

Unfortunately... the 17in laptops our HUGE, therefor not even worth it, I would buy a desktop and a 13 in from dell before I got a 17in, their pointless in even being a laptop because of their size.

Also, I own the m15x, and sure I had a hinge crack, and even another odd crack on the palm rest near the arrow keys.

and sure I had to send it back to AW and didn't have my laptop for 2 weeks.

Would I buy the m15x again???

In a heartbeat, the m15x is by far the slickest looking laptop in the laptop market today, and with the smart bay, it holds a commanding lead far beyond any other laptop, and I'm sure will for quite awhile longer.

This is what it comes down to, are you willing to lose your laptop for a few weeks somewhere down the road when it has problem?

Like I said, I could end up someday having to send it back again, but for me, it is quite worth it, this is the best laptop I think I'll ever own, period.

Saying that 17" laptops are pointless is a little biased, no?

    To a point.

Still, 17" laptops have been around for a long time and are quite popular.

Yes, but I'm in the IT program at my school, (MSDNAA FTW) and I see a lot of people trying to lug around huge 17in laptops, one guy carries his on this luggage thing with wheels, and that's ridiculous, ya know.

Like I said, they are not easily portable, and if not, why not just by a desktop and a 13 in.

BTW, I owned the OCZ Whitebook (m17), for 3 days, and sent it back because of its size. There was no way I was going to lug that thing around with the rest of my books, books are heavy in themselves.

Therefor I still stand by my first post. :)

PS, When I first saw the m15x, I was in love, then I bought 5 other laptops and returned them all before I gave in and finally bought the m15x, been happy with it ever since.

I get that, for you, it wasn't ideal.

    Still not pointless :)

    For the op:

As far as the m15x, I would avoid it like the plague (especially since a new 15" is just around the corner).

I admit the new m17x looks nice, I'm just saying what's the point of a 17in laptop if it isn't very portable?

You didn't say it, but you are forgetting that some people (actually everyone in this particular forum) likes to actually use there gaming laptop for, you know, gaming.

    You can't game on a 13".

I am not trolling, but your posts are saying that we should get desktops instead of a powerful laptop.

And I said, basically, desktops aren't portable -- that's where the M17x (and other 17"ers) comes in :)

I've had no problems with the portability of 17 inch laptops. I carried an X205 around for a year and a half. Took it to and from work every single day. No issues. Now I have an M17x and its actually a bit lighter to carry around than my X205 was because the power brick weighed like 5 pounds by itself...

Just because they aren't portable to YOU doesn't mean they can't be to others.

I could spin the question around and say to me, 15 inch screens aren't very convenient because they are hard to read at high resolutions and thus annoy the hell out of me because they're either high res or really low res. I need my high res to have multiple apps running to get things done, especially when I'm doing school work.

Whats the point of buying a laptop to game on than? You pay more for less performance from a desktop.

It is more economical to buy a more portable laptop and a desktop that will out perform a laptop, save money, and have the best of both worlds, than to buy a laptop that works as a desktop replacement, but just sits there, like a desktop.

    Yep.

Moo said he is like 6'6" and is a big guy. He won't use anything smaller than 17"s because of his size. LOL

Where have you been for the last 8 years. lol

This is an Alienware laptop section -- you do know that right?

There are a ton of people who like to take there systems to LAN parties and friends houses to game.

Sometimes it is easier to have one really powerfull system than to have multiple ones (ie desktop, small laptop, etc). Oh, and most of us have nice gaming desktops too.

I'm 6'1 and a small guy and I still don't mind carrying around a 17 inch laptop. Now if it was 20... that would suck.

THis are my thoughts on the discussion that has been going on here. I can go even further in it but this will do.

Some people like to game on the go or use it for work that requires more then a 15 inch and there on the road alot like for buildingmeasurement. Why buy a desktop and a 15 inch when you can just buy the best looking/performing 17 inch laptop there is at the moment. You got to stop looking at things from just your perspective and realise theirs more then just your way of life and blablabla sorry im just kidding do whatever you feel like man hahaha

I happen to enjoy and use my 17" laptop. I do not regret purchasing it for even one second.

Further, I do not have any diffculty moving it around. I carry it around in a laptop bag either on my shoulder or by holding the bag's handles. The weight nor the bulk bother me or are an inconvenience to me. It's a freaking awesome machine.

even when i am gone they chant my name :)

    ahhh to be loved

But yes the M17x is perfect balance between power and size. Its light enough i can take it anywhere and powerful enough i can run anything i need. Also has enough battery life to get a decent amount of NBR in. :)

For me its all that and a bag of chips.

hehe....well a desktop is not a practical option for me, and I want a machine that has a good-sized display, lots of power, and a styling look....thus a M17x is my man....but I am aware that for many others 15" or even smaller is an adequate option....
