    RIght a few ranters,

Basically I'm annoyed - Dell has officially taken away alienware's style and class.
You have to order via their site, their order page is no where near as nice as the AW one.

Another thing, the design is so childish, while attempting feebly to look sleek and cool. Not really a good step, the thing i like is the fact that the thing is made of aliminuim - good step.

But it really does look ugly, it's got way to many curves and the screen doesn't go with the laptop. The shape isn't too good tbh, the curved screen on the parallelogram base doesn't llook very nice. And agh I can't explain it but it just doesn't look like AW anymore :/

The specs are good though :p

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

There's gotta be other systems out there you like. Just don't buy the M17x.

    Well that's just one opinion.

Here's mine. I could care less what the website where I order it from looks like. I absolutely love all of it's new style and appearance and IMO A.W. has hit this one out of the park!

They have completely captured the "Alienware" look and yet continue it's evolution of other world style.

Clearly Nathan, the design staff didn't have you in mind when they designed the M17X.

EDIT: Why would you be so "annoyed" at an inanimate object? And so much so that you felt compelled to start a thread about being annoyed?

I for one love the design, and the only reasons I will be buying this laptop is because it has SLI in a 17" model, a 16:10 aspect ratio screen, and because technically it is not an Alienware anymore, it's Dell, and its warranties are Dell warranties which means Complete Care and transferable.

AW already had a high resale value. This just makes it even more valuable.

The website thing really did annoy me, even looking at the m17 you can see its doing it via a dell subdomain - there is no need in this, nor does it need to go via dells website. They can very easily connect their accounting system up to alienware.

I think they have changed their look, when I first saw it I thought WoW, but I looked at it again and the WoW just didn't have the same effect and it just became childish. The m15x and the m17x had the options not to be so in your face + still look really good, this achieves neither, aparat from looking like a badly disportioned pallalegram with bits missing :p.

I find the m15x to look very toy-ish, but the M17x is sexy.....

SO, we all have our own opinions obviously :)

Just goes to show how opinions differ because I still think a 17.3" 16:9 screen offering 1600x900, 1920x1080, or 2048x1152 resolutions is better for a gaming PC.

    Hi,
I would have to agree with Rob41. This is simply a matter of opinion, and although Dell Alienware strives to meet the desires and demands of every customer, they can not please everyone. This is why competing companies exist. They capture customers that are either hard to please, or perhaps have other things in mind.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the whole purpose of owning an Alienware was simply for the experience. By experience, I'm referring to the the proprietary software such as Alien FX, the symbolic alien head, and the ambient lights that no other notebook posesses. Also, lets keep in mind the fact that they're always making the very best attempt at providing the most current hardware in the smallest package (no matter how imperfect it may be).
I think the aquistion is a very good thing, and has done nothing but improve Alienware as a whole. Critizing website organization and the curves of the laptop isn't enough justification to turn a cold shoulder to the new model. Not only has Dell, as the new ODM, made the system more stable and reliable, but they have opened the product up to a more competitive market that we may have not otherwise had (I like to pay less and get more). I think that they were correct to direct your attention to their website, as they did play a pretty important role in its design. This is no different then a producer being represented at the end credits of a movie. Also, this could very well be a small step in the direction of both sites merging together. In the end, you're not buying the website, you're buying the computer, so lets stick to what actually matters (the system).

I am sure there are a lot more people upset with Alieware taking over Dell's gaming line and the XPS gaming line going away.

My sons girlfriend has one of those big 17" XPS laptops.

It's huge compared to my M17.

I couldn't agree more about the part about the only reason I'm even THINKING of purchasing another AW (in the form of the new m17x) is because I would be dealing directly with Dell. In fact, I called Dell the day the computer came out and this was a direct quote that I began the conversation off with: "Ok, I'm basically going to ask you a question and depending on your answer it will determine whether or not I will actually buy this computer. Will I be dealing with Dell in terms of tech support, warranty, and customer service or will I be dealing Dell?"

The answer was Dell and I couldn't be more relieved. :)
