Hey guys, first of all thanks for taking the time to read this and try to help me! My problem is that for a few days now I've been trying to contact Alienware about a problem my laptop is having, basically the battery will not hold a charge. I plug it into the AC adapter and it says "Plugged In, Charging" but it remains at 0% and if the slightest thing moves the adapter, it goes into stand by ( or is it hibernate? ) I've been trying to contact Alienware since the problem began, I've tried emailing, I've tried calling hell I've even tried online chat. Always, I get no reply, I spent 4 hours waiting on the phone yesterday only to get my call dropped. I've concluded that the problem is the battery ( my Laptop is still under Warrantee [ I got the 3 year plan] ) I just need a replacement battery, does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get a hold of these guys? I've been trying for days now with no luck and the sad part is I use this laptop for my job and now that I'm studying to get into college it's very important that I be able to log on the internet and do prep tests and such, the laptop makes that impossible by shutting down every few minutes... Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'd honestly hate to have to waste $100 usd on ebay to buy a replacement battery when my laptop is still under warantee because of horrible customer support...

I use the older model M17X model, would that affect it in anyway? PM me how much you are asking for it. Also, I was planning on maybe buying the new design from alienware, has anyone had an experience with it? Would I need to ship it to them or could I change the case myself?

Hmm, what would be my options if I wanted to purchase the new M17X? Would I just need to basically trash my old M17X and buy a new one?

Alright, It's roughly 70 usd for the battery so I'm seriously considering just buying the new one ( is it that much better? ) Can anyone suggest some specs that I can upgraded on later?

You buy the new M17x through DELL now....not Alienware.

I would get SLI for sure, 260 SLI should be good. And get the best LCD possible.

I don't do much heavy gaming, I play TF2/ZPS/CSS from time to time but I don't play much crysis or anything like that, wouldn't a single 260 be enough? I mean, doesn't the second card only produce 40% or less of a performance increase?

Depending on your tech skills, just about any component can be upgraded. The CPU, hard drives, RAM, GPU, even LCD can be upgraded.

I would choose a lower amount of RAM, you can buy RAM cheaper outside of Dell. If you are comfortable replacing the CPU, I would go for a mid-range CPU, that way you have better chance of selling it at decent price to offset buying a higher-end CPU later.

yeah, from what you described, one 260 is sufficient, especially since the new M17x can go hybrid SLI with the onboard 9400 for even higher performance....

Any recommendations in specific? I am a tad bit confused about the CPU, should I get the quad core or the dual core? I currently have a 2.8 dual core and it runs pretty smooth, should I just push for the quad though?

In your case, I recommend a dual core, not even the heaviest games use all four cores.

Unless you do heavy media/video/3D stuff, most apps for those can use all four cores....

I normally just multi task using Photoshop, Dreamweaver, MSN, Yahoo, Aim etc etc. I currently have the:

    Intel® Core™2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

    I ws considering getting the:

    Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

Or should I just add the extra 500 and get the

    Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9100 2.26GHz (12MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) ?

The Moo: I'm kind of considered as to what you are suggesting there. =]

If you're considering a quad, stay with the Q9000 or get the QX9300. You can oc the Q9000 to 2,4 ghz.

Should I be getting the 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz or the 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz? I'm considering just getting the cheaper one and upgrading off parts I buy on newegg later. Is there any reason why I should by the second one I listed?

Yeah, it sounds like you will benefit from a quad-core then. Photoshop can use four cores, plus quads are good for multi-tasking too. I set affinities to make multi-tasking even more efficient....

Moo has got some good advice and his vid is great....

Do you know where I can take a look at the different colors ( an actual picture, not the photoshoped to hell thing they have on their site ). Also, with a single GTX 260M, what would my FPS be like on a game like TF2?

I play much of those same games myself without a problem. Indeed, I discovered last night, SLI was not enabled so I was all this time playing Crysis @ max settings with only a single GPU, and it still ran good. I did notice a little choppiness I thought should not be there so I troubleshooted, that's how I found out SLI was not enabled.

TF2 is not a particularly demanding game, you'll have no probs.

Really? I've abused my AW like its a toughbook, in one of the harshest places, I still haven't got any scratches or peeling away on my system. Indeed I am quite impressed with it's resilence!
