PSH...report to them we want RGBLED..we have the technology
-
If I was AW I wouldn't know what to make of these poll results. lol
They are quite skewed by the different options. I selected yes AND I prefer 16:9 so, yes, I can read directions! -
You'd think after my comment the percentages would improve, but they haven't. They're the same to slightly worse.
-
I would like my notebook to look like a notebook, hence 16:10 screen. I have seen my friend's 'widescreen' DELL last week which looked like an oversized chocolate bar in dimensions!
In my view, 16:9 is good for watching movies, reading PDF / word documents side-by-side. 16:10 will help reduce vertical scrolling till an extend, and it gives the feel of a real notebook, in my opinion. Infact, one of the major reasons I chose the expensive, high-end gaming segment for making my new laptop purchase!
Chaz, was careless to read the poll properly, voted only ONE
forgive my sin!
-
I personally prefer the screen to be wider..so 16:9 would probably be my choice now xD
-
If you thing about it, the dimensions were adapted from standard television CRT. Given that, the switch to 16:9 at this point, would seem the natural route to follow.
ANY screen size would be a compromise; and each has it's pros and cons. However, at this point, 16:9 appears to now be the industry standard so you may as well get used to it. -
It all comes down to personal preferences in the end. As most of the members have said, soon the entire laptop market might migrate to 16:9 aspect ratio. I am used to the 16:10 aspect ratio in my Acer Travelmate for the last 4 years and love it. I am also used to the 16:9 screen aspect ratio of my ex-roommate's HP and personally I prefer the 16:10 screen of my own laptop.
-
Either. Just give us a better quality LCD.
-
Agreed
Also, lose the E2E display. That way I can put my own lcd in if I don't like it!
The E2E looks cool when the system is off. Otherwise it's just a nuisance...... -
I'd really prefer 16:10 but unless it was the deciding factor (two notebooks very similar in every way apart from screen) then it wouldn't put me off if a notebook was 16:9.
-
There is not functional reason the screen size must be limited to 17". In fact, due to the popularity in HD movies, the 16:9 is becoming the de facto standard in screen display. However, one thing we would should all keep in mind when switching to that aspect ratio, is that the laptop would either be 16" or 18" to accommodate the change.
-
16:9 comes in 17.3".
However I'm not too sure the the existing M17x chassis would be able to fit it because of the extra width compared to a 16:10. If Dell wanted to swap a new 16:9 screen in the existing M17x frame there's a good chance it'd have to be 16.4" because it has roughly the same width as a 16:10 17". -
Dell changing the screen/adjusting the chasis? how likely would that be to happen...from what I remember, not very?
-
It's just a hypothetical. Don't misunderstand cause that's how rumors start.
-
Actually DELL, with it's Studio XPS 16, already has this screen dimension. It's AW that is unlikely to adopt it.
-
They've also got a 17.3" in the Inspirion 17. Expect the Studio 17 to more than likely get the 17.3" screen as a refresh as well.
I was genuinely surprised that the M17x didn't get a 16:9 17.3 at launch....and a bit disappointed because I wanted to hear people's cries of woe. -
Meh..
How about a non-auto contrasting screen? That's something worth debating about
-
If they went 16:9 the M17x would have had more options than Samsungs for their screens, so maybe you would have gotten one without auto-contrast or bleed. ;þ
-
Well I was thinking that if they were going to go to lengths to change the chasis (which they most likely arent) and get a 16:9 ratio, it would be suitable for Dells RBG LED line..
just connecting the HYPOTHETICAL dots :] -
I doubt Samsung is the only mfr making 16:10 screens. lol
I think that was more of a money thing than anything else.... -
Let us choose a screen when ordering by manufacturer, panel type, and full detailed specs--that would be innovative...
-
Couldn't agree more!
-
and not cost effective at all for Dell
-
Meh... So what, drake!
We are wishing over here so cut us some slack! lol
-
If this poll were conducted 1/2 a yr ago, I would probably have said no. But, after dealing with an Asus W90, it wasn't so bad, so I would probably vote yes. I still prefer 16:10 but I could live with 16:9 as long as the vertical pixel count is no less than 900.
-
ok, how about if they have a deal already in place with 3 different manufactures for LCDs (like they did for the M1730) then you have a choice of one of the three.
Then they would probably have overstock of the Samsung panels and start giving discounts to people to take them off their hands. -
That is exactly what I was thinking when I posted my comment.
It'd be nice to have 3 or 4 options.
Heck, I'd settle for the options that the 1640 curently has... -
Innovative perhaps, but not very cost effective. Like it or not, widescreens laptops are the way of the future, and that's what manufacturers are switching to. AW will simply have to adapt to that or get left behind. For now, the next best solution would be simply to add a widescreen model to their line. Problem solved.
-
16:10 is widescreen.
As is the wider 16:9..... -
lol fail
-
Wait!..What!...No! I'm not sure what that means, but the defacto widescreen standard is now 16:9!!
-
EPIC fail
-
AW's bottom line is their problem. They are making a hefty profit on these laptops. Making more LCD choices available would result in more sales. AW chose a lousy LCD for a well made notebook. They could have done much better. Why not have more LCD options?
-
As you probably know, LCD's screens are in flux right now, so it's anybody's guess as to where that industry will go. That said, AW should have started off by offering the best the industry has available (RGBLED). Especially when they dare to claim the best laptop in the Universe!
-
well they didn't exactly say best...they said "most powerful 17 inch..."
If the new M17x was 16:9, would you still buy it?
