Ok so I finally broke down and ordered one. Of course I have done all the research and I think that at this moment it is a great deal. I have made one assumption however. I have assumed that given the lifecycle and brand awareness for this laptop the number of owners is much greater than that of the Clevo/Sager/Asus laptop brands. Given that assumption the complaints should be much greater for the m15x than they would for other brands. So if you dont have problems or love your m15x I would like to hear about it.

    Cheers,

I am happy with mine also. No problems either. I would like to eventually upgrade it with a new Nvidia 260m GTX or even try the 280m GTX :)

No problems with mine so far, about a month and a half old. Runs fast, biggest downside is Vista instead of Windows 7 (darn my other laptop for breaking too early!)

If I wanted to be nitpicky: the screen creaks a bit when you first start to move it, but that was how my last laptop was as well. But, it's just creaking, it doesn't feel like there's too much stress or that it's about to break at any moment, it's just noise.

I think you make the right assumption re owners. Although I like mine, but I had to send it back within 4 hours of getting it (failed right speaker) got it back in about 2 weeks and received an extra 3 months warranty for moaning. I've had a few problems but I have to say AW tech support have been very good. My HD failed some S.M.A.R.T tests, but was working fine and they sent me a new one, no questions asked. I've had Turbo Memory problems, same thing sent me a new one. Hasn't helped though. So my experience, I would expect better quality for the £2500 I paid, but I'm pleased with the performance.

I have used the turbo memory in the past and had nothing but problems with it. It would take a long time to cache everything, so after boot it would slow the machine down for about 10 minutes while it built up its cahce. I didn't like it at all, I just left it off of this one.

as for the turbo memory I know they had to remove it from order due to issues it has with 64-bit o/s so

I like the idea of mine, but sadly it shipped with problems. Eventually, being without it for a few weeks (while AW fouls up repairs they won't let me do myself) will appeal to me more than putting up with a defective touchpad and as Denver seems to have worked out here, a bad mobo. For now though, I'm still too much in love with being able to play jaw-dropping games anywhere I please while leaving my power brick at home most days.

What is the deal with the build quality, is it mostly that it is all plastic? Are you getting a lot of fracturing, loose parts/components, gaps etc.? There is now way I was going to pay $5000+ when it first came out but hopefully it is a good deal now. I am interested to see the next model.

I've had mine for a month now. I love it but there are a few things about it that I think Alienware should do better on with the next models:

    1) Clearly the hinge issue. Mine makes noise but I think I'm with the one guy that says it seems to be more noise than an actual issue. But I'm still very careful with it and only time will tell.

    2) I think the speakers are sub-par. They can't handle volume very well. Kind of a disappointment since it was a decision that Alienware made that cut corners IMO. I would've expected better given the price but I was willing to overlook it. But it appears that reviews hit this item right on the money.

    3) Every now and again when I boot up, something gets the touchpad stuck where the Bluetooth will go on and off, on and off... If I touch the volume for instance it seems to cause it to reset and I no longer have the problem. Doesn't happen all the time and not often enough to bug me.

    4) I also have a slight keyboard lag which seems well documented here. I haven't researched this fully to see what fixes may be available. Again, a slight annoyance.

Other than those issues which thus far to me are minor, I LOVE this laptop. Performance is everything they said and more. The features are great, I love the swap bay, and gaming is a dream. Vista 64-bit runs like a champ especially since most of my work software is 64-bit.

Well, how do I explain this, the laptop just feels too "plastic-y" if that makes sense. I was lucky enough to get mine G-masked to help alleviate the hinge issue though ;)

No, I don't have any loose part/components or gaps of any kind. The biggest selling point of the m15x for me was the battery life combined with the aesthetics.

I have had my M15X with the 8800 GTX for over a year now. I ordered the day it was released. My hinge cracked about 2 months ago, and AW repaired it and it is better than it has ever been.

I upgraded the memory to 4 GB when I get the machine and I just recently installed a 320 GB HD.

I love this computer so much more than my old XPS or Acer Ferrari. The m15x is truly an amazing machine.

I've had my m15x for a bit more than a year now. I still love it, even though my hinge broke a few weeks ago. The laptop is now in Ireland being repaired, hope it goes well. I'm planning to stick with the laptop for one more year because so far I love it!

I love my m15x. The only problem I've encountered was the random volume slider issue. That was solved by using anti static polish on the slider surface. Apparently a static charge was building up over time.

I will have to remember that one regarding the anti static spray. I have 2 m1530's here at the house and the capacitive buttons seem to work about the same as what I have heard with the m15x. There is no slider just a volume up and down button but a pain to use, gotta press hard etc. I think they look nice but they just aren't there yet.

One suggestion I got from these forums was to delete the touchpad driver. I did that, and no more keyboard lag. Downside is that now I can't control the sensitivity for accidental touches, but that hasn't been too much of a problem, my hands are rarely near enough to the touchpad, and the lack of keyboard lag makes it worthwhile.

I'm pretty impressed with mine. But I'm also quite discouraged. I bought mine for cheap since it came with a hinge problem. I just repaired the hinge myself a few days ago, took apart the entire laptop and put a new top panel + hinges on the laptop. With the whole laptop taken apart I was able to get a good look at the build quality and frankly I'm quite dissapointed. There is so much wasted space, they could have made this thinner. Or put bigger fans in it. Or but a better cooling system in it. Or done something with all this wasted space. And the entire machine is plastic! The only hint of metal is the hinge.

The paint flakes right off too...it's a nice laptop but the lack-of build quality stuns me. I think an old $400 acer laptop I used to have had better quality then this. The speakers on this laptop are roughly equal to a cell phone speaker.

I like this laptop. It's the first gaming laptop I've owned. I'm just kinda dissapointed. infact I'm considering selling it in a few months, while I can still make a profit from it, and buying a different laptop.

I love my m15x! With the 8800M GTX, T9300 2.50GHz, and 4gb of ram it performs great. It runs all my games, including WoW/Fallout3/TF2/Company of Heroes series/F.E.A.R.2/CoD:WaW/L4D/DoW2, at max with great frame rates. the size and portability is great, especialy compared to my old 17" M9700. I take it to all my classes to take notes. Using intel graphics I get easily 2 hours 45 minutes of battery life when taking notes, surfing the web, watching videos, and listening to music. Build quality I would say is excellent. Very solid feelings laptop and when i opened it up and upgraded my CPU it was very clean setup just like my M9700 was inside.

The m15x rocks my socks. I'm glad that there's finally a thread about HAPPY m15x users. Everything else seems to be so overpowered by the unfortunate cases as well as the negatively minded that it's good to see a change about the ones who simply have no complaints.

You have gotta figure that for the majority of users who post it will be negative. The pen is mightier than the sword, and ever since those dark ages, everyone seems to own a pen. Not enough people pick them up to tell us about there good experiences... but when they have a bad experience the pen becomes unsheathed awfully quick!

I love mine despite its issues its had one big repair took a day on the phone with techs (they were for the most part great) and two weeks in the shop. It has had its other little issues though-I've had a few reinstalls and issues with the lighting as a result etc much of it is my fault to though and the little things can be overcome on the whole its a great machine. oh and the creaking/breaking hinges suck mine have not broken yet but I am under 3 year warranty in case...

my m17 seems much better built and is even sexier

between, can anyone clarify if the 1900 x 1200 screen in m15x is a matte finish?

thats good, I also love the matte finish, jst because of the kind of glare the glossy one is producing. Is there a reduction in quality or whasoever when you scale down from the native resolution, dogeatdawg? (if ever you scaled down :) )
