I assume you are talking about the new M17x not the old m17x, the new one uses a capital M in it's name, and there have been some over clocking issues with the Q9200 in the M17x so far, Quadzilla bought one and he could not over clock it, but that doesn't necessarily mean there will be problems with all Q9200's, but still, it doesn't look good.
So, if you are buying it with the specific intention of OC'ing then I would have to say no, get something else, but if you are happy with the stock 2.4 then by all means, pick one up. -
does the e0 qx9200 work on m17x?
-
eo part is useless to say
the q9200 works just fine but it looks like Quad got a bad chip...
the CPU works but we can't be sure it will overclock yet -

Yeah it did have unlocked multipliers right? anyway do we know if quad is being sent a new one?
-
Yes but he can't overclock it at all due the fact that nothing except 2.4 is unstable.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
But that may be due to the fact it is a dud.. or at least I hope for Quads sake... although I did tell him there was probably a reason Intel never made that CPU official

Nope proof? new to me... thanks
-
humm ...i guess you have me beat
i'll just go back to my corner now

No lol I'm sure you are right... I was just curious as well... didn't mean to come off that way

Once again the Q9200 overclocks fine in the M17 so it has nothing to do with Intel never releasing it Ugg.
I may have had a bad chip but not bad in the sense it didnt work it just didnt want to overclock .
Zfactor said the microcode for the Q9200 was not in the M17x bios but he also said that QAVS shared the same microcode as the Qx9300 meaning it was the same processor just at 9x mulit instead of 9.5.
Will someone else have better luck then i ? your guess is as good as mine.
Would i buy one if i were not concerned about Overclocking ? sure its a solid CPU for the price .
I will be grabbing a Qx9300 once i get the other issue with my machine worked out because i love to overclock and benchmark and push the envelope. I would have kept it otherwise if i wasnt into the above. -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I'm sorry Quad I didn't mean any harm by that
-
Today I'm getting a QX9300 OEM from a trading site here in the Netherlands, and at fine price aswell ($476,60). It's a HP spare one, it was in a M17 and wasn't overclocked so hopefully it's a good one. Only thing is.... I don't have the M17x jet.

So what do you guys usualy use for thermal paste when upgrading your CPU.
I choose: Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound, because of it's price and it's non-conductive. Is this a good paste?
Edit!
I mean CPU instead of GPU... -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Oh yea for sure it is a high quality paste, that ICD 7 and OCZ freeze are all good pastes.. although I prefer ICD 7

Who here on the boards has purchased the Q9200 for use in the M17X besides Quad?
Who has successfully OC'd the Q9200 in the M17X? -
Nobody Electro just moi
i am the only guinea pig thus far .
-
I have one but I'm still waiting for my M17X
-
-
Well im not risking the Q9200 again but thats not to say others will not have more success then i did .
If your not into overclocking the CPU then the Q9200 is by far the best bang for the buck and if it can overclock then its just icing on the cake. -

Cant tell if your being sarcastic since you rolled your eyes at the end.
Important question regarding cpu upgrade with m17x
