I will finally order a M15X, ive been waiting for a couple months and i am happy i waited since the price has been going down(i think it went down another $100 today) and i found ways to save even more money. Ok well i still have some questions so hopefully i can get some answers.
1. I plan on getting the 120gb hdd and buying a 320gb or 500gb so i can get a lot more memory and save money, but heres the question (not sure how to put it though) is there anything on the hard drive that will come with the m15x that i will need on the new hard drive? like will i need to transfer anything from the stock hard drive to the new one? are there any hard drives that wont work?
2. Is this a good ram for the m15x? and does every ram work in the m15x or are there some that are not compatible?

Hi there, the memory modules you chose should work perfectly fine, ocz are a good brand, I personally went with Corsair, but there is Crucial, Mushkins as well. Those will work.
As for your hard drive question, there willl be the image I think on the original hard-drive but I believe you can just replace your old with new hard drive, then run the Alien recovery CD and you should be set to go.
THanks -
Just the opporating system and drivers, but if i remember rightly my M15x came with the disks for them. But one problem i had was with the strange power button on it which constantly had problems where the machine wouldent boot up e.t.c
Other than that its a pretty good laptop, hope you enjoy it
P.s. for best speed you want to pick up a 160 or 320 GB hdd, because on a 160 GB is the most condensed you can get on a single platter harddrive, and a 320 gb harddrive just uses 2 x 160 GB platters, which mean syou get good performance, look at the western digital black harddrive, they can pick up a maximum of 90 Mb/s usualy. -
With my M17X I had to cut cost. So I payed for low end. Then over time I upgraded. It started out with a hard drive 320gb. Which I made as my main hard drive. So I reinstalled windows on it. I started out with a 120gb hard drive.
Best idea is make a cdrw or flash drive of the files you need from my hive if there any new Updates. When I did my setup nothing was new. So all I did was copy from my install cd.
But if you have mix feelings call a Alienware tech and they will help you.
In about a week or 2 maybe 3
