montevina is going to suck imo... the m15x already has its key feature put in (battery saving via intergrated)... i dout montevina is going to be able to get the 7 hours the m15x can get with a smartbay bat and low power settings... only reason i would wait for it would be quadcore... and even then that would = waiting till middle of 2009 at least for a well priced/clocked one.

im alot more intersted in the new ATIhigh end mobile cards and the 9800m GTX.

regardless ass soon as the m15x is black in and skull cap im ordering... hardware outstrips software atm regardless of what crysis makes u think

Farcry2s requirements for "high" (max) make crysis look like a joke... and ubisoft normaly over judge requirements to reduce consumer complaint .. for example rainbowsix vagas and assassins creed where 5.5 windows experience scores for top performance.. when a 4.5- 5 would be enough

gamers should jump on M15x or NP5973 now imo.. lots of good games to play. 8800m GTX in laptops and 8800GT in desktops (both have about the same performance) is going to be overkill for year at least.

Lower heat, lower power consumption, faster FSB... there's nothing sucky about those specs in the Montevina :D

Also, mobile quad CPU's won't be terribly feasible until nano-wire batteries hit the market. These will increase current battery capacities 1000% -- yes, we're talking about 1-2 day laptop uptimes with no AC power. They're the next big leap in battery technology and will have greater impact to the notebook industry than any current mobile chip. The technology to make them is already here. Industry patents and deployment will be another story, but I'm guessing 1-2 years before we start seeing them.

u have seen the montevina benchmarks right?
its like no to minimal performance increase regardless of fsb.. some german site posted them afue weeks ago on the new 15inch clevo.

in regard to the battery tech... that sounds awwwsum... i hope its backward compatible lol ^_^

have you tried that out by yourself? imho, in order to achieve that kind of battery life, you need to disable both wifi and blutooth, switch to max battery mode, lowest birghtness, and LEAVE THE LAPTOP ON IDLE during the entire process.

The improved FSB won't be noticeable until you try stuff that depend on high-speed memory I/O like video transcoding -- this is where you'll notice a big improvement.

Anyway, check out the battery info here: http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2008/january9/nanowire-010908.html

Based on the info above, nanowire batteries should be backwards compatible to existing battery types.

i haven't seen anyone mentioned this yet, the montevina will also included 3.5G mobile broadband (dang faster than my verizon DSL) and wimax which cover range of 1.8 miles

yes but from a gaming laptop perspective both 3.5g and wimax will/already are expansion card possible additions.

From a gaming point of view montevina adds nothing other than the support of the later to be released 2.5 quadcore.. and with alienware putting a array of battery saving/ second battery features into the m15x and m17x its clear they are futureprofing this SR sistem as to not need to switch to montevina till a wellpriced and well clocked/cooled/powered mobile quad comes out.

just saying if your looking at the m15x/m17x you really should be only thinking about gaming/batterylife any one looking for other features should not be even considering the m15x period. What i would really like to know is if any one is going to put a 8800m or 9800m in a laptop or what new laptops would have ATI gpu configs that would score around the 9k 3dmark06 mark...other than gateway dell alienware or sager.... how old the 8800m GTX is and how little its supported still. .. I asume the 9800m GTX once it comes out will be simulary scares and only apear and sager and possibly alienware/dell laptops..

with news of photoshop CS4 having gpu acelleation mabye this years revision of the macbookpro will have a higher end gfx card.

They may upgrade to an 8700M/9800M GTS level, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't. The 8600 would be a very capable card for providing GPU acceleration for PS.

you can be happy that the MBP has a 8600GT as they always had outdated/weak graphic cards in their notebooks until they now started using the 8600GT. Therefore I really doubt that they will replace it in the next time...

The MBP has it's own share of thermal issues due to it's slim form factor, so I kind of doubt the graphics card will be updated anytime soon. I was even surprised when they put the 8600GT in there. I think they were looking for a card that would balance work and play. In my opinion, customers would be better served by given a choice over a more powerful/less powerful graphics card. I really don't understand why Apple is so inflexible with the configuration.

Yeah, it was on engadget or something that I was reading that volume shipments of certain Centrino 2 equipment may be delayed into mid-August

Might be a kick to some M860 early purchasers.
