So I was in vent last night and was telling my friends that I am picking up a Alienware, they thought it was all and what not. But then one of them was saying that Alienware and Clevo are made by the same company(basically a AW is a Clevo)
So I was just wondering if what they said was true? Is AW a LED'd out Clevo?
I don't have anything against Clevo's they are AMAZING systems.. just wondering.![]()

Alienwares are manufactured by Dell??? I'd think it might be obvious xD
-
Alienware is Dell.
Sager is Clevo...
Or not?? -
I know Alienware pre-Dell used Clevo motherboards, not sure if they do now.
-
I tried telling them.. lol
They said they are the exact same Chassis.. I think they were trying to kill my brain.. lol -
-
-
They ALL own Sager's.. lol -
They used to be, before Alienware was bought by Dell, I believe the chassis and motherboard was built by Clevo. I don't have any evidence of it, but Ive heard many times on these boards in both Alienware and Clevo forums that it used to be.
-
The piece's are all falling into place now... lol
-
As far as I can tell, Alienware is now solely manufactured by Dell.

Like M14x......
Inspiron is designed by OEM, not sure XPS...well, XPS 15 has horrible internal design, maybe it is directly by Dell? -
Alienware used to be painted clevo models. They no longer use clevo barebones.
The are Flextronic/Quanta made computers -

Exactly, pre-dell they used clevo as their ODM, but now since dell owns them they are Flextronic/Quanta (the ODM for dell laptops). Dell is not a laptop manufacturer. -
Your buddies are wrong, it is a flextronic designed computer. Clevo barebones was from an era before dell. They are essentially the only real gaming laptop brand besides asus that isn't a sager/clevo copycat, they have a unique chassis
-
Dell designs the notebooks in Texas and then contracts out that design to be manufactured by an ODM in Taiwan/China. For the R2 it was Flextronics that built them and for the M17x-R3 it is Compal. We don't know who will be making the M18x yet but it has to be either Flex or Compal. But like I said, the design is entirely Dell's.
-
Basically, other companies manufacture them to dell's specifications.
-
Much like any part of the electronics industry. Apple doesn't manufacture it's own products, it contracts it all out. It's not even wise or profitable to manufacture your own goods these days--cheaper to have a Chinese company do it for you. What counts is the design and that is owned by Dell so we won't be seeing clones of it by other notebook makers. -
Told them last night. They just had nothing else to say... except now they are all butt hurt and are hating on me now, for buying a overpriced POS... lol
I said, what makes them crap exactly? and they couldn't give one damn straight answer... I love retarded friends. -
Please tell your friends they are wrong and jealous noobs.
Alienware have been made by Dell for over 3 years now and yes pre-dell they did use a clevo chassis but that's the past.
Now Alienware's are simply the best laptops made in the Universe... LOL No really, I believe that as I've owed many different brands. -
-
Alienware is overpriced compared to what? Yes it's overpriced if you only care about the components but if you care about the looks, the extra features and the warranty then no it's not overpriced.
Think of it as people who say Ferraris are overpriced. Well maybe... You could get a GTR and modify a few things and get a car as fast but at the end of the day the GTR will never be a Ferrari, it will only be a wanna be...
Well it's the same thing in between Alienware and all other brands. Alienware makes remarkable PCs which cannot be compared to others due to all the cool features and looks and build quality and warranty they offer. -
Only thing I loathe about computers. They just do not age gracefully. -
When I buy, I don't get a maxed out computer, as to me the total max is way overpriced (no offense to anybody who likes to max out!). However, I get a most bang for the buck computer at the time.
My computer has aged gracefully! To be honest, I only got into the market for a replacement because I wanted to integrate a computer into my home theater. Since this Sony has HDMI, I figured, 4 years...I deserve a new laptop.
I looked at many. I almost pulled the trigger on both an XPS and a Asus, but then looked closer at Alienware. I think that my choice was the most bang for the buck, and I am hoping that in 4 years, I am still as happy with it as I am with my Sony. -

Interesting talk last night...
