I've got Safeware in addition to my 3yr warranty from Alienware.

It covers me anywhere in the world against stuff like accidental damage like spills, drops etc. and it covers theft as well.

I the "business" plan for almost $4000 in global coverage for less than $200 a year. You can get coverage starting at around $70 a year.

Not all home owners policies cover the full amount or globally.

I walk with Jesus too. Not every day though. Keep your perspective here..

Huh  .Anyways I wish you well mate.

Thing is (and that's me) I want to buy a well engineered, kick , awesome and reliable lappie from Alienware in two years time. You guys have the talent and technology. You have been where others are scared to tread.

Please bring all your combined talents together and kick . And work together as a team that recognises the true potential that you already posess

Heck, I fight hard for Acer. My supposedly cheap lappie has had amazing endurance and reliability thus far in my use/hands. Love it and is as I type on it here I am thinking of my next step. And next lappie. In two years time.

I am already fighting for Alienware. Even though I don't own one. Yet.

Get your act together Alienware guys. I want one when you have got it all sorted.

    Cheers and remember me
    Theo

    COUNTERPOINT:

I've said it many times before that Consumer Reports does not support extended warranties. They maintain that problems that will occur will do so during the normal warranty period. And that few problems occur past the first year with modern electronics.

In addition, many companies warranties are riddled with fine print (reasons you're not covered), and that repairs can be contracted with outside sources, which can result in less than satisfactory results.

You should also keep in mind that extended warranties result in a 100% profit for companies that offer them. CR says, save that money and use it for any repairs you may need.

Acer used to represent the lowest of the low, the "disposable" machine you knew was going to fall apart, but needed something cheap and effective. They turned their image around and their reliability, and are fairly solid across the board in almost all aspects.

I think Alienware can do that. I love Alienware, I buy Alienware, but I think their support is questionably lacking and their representatives can be very... poor. Nothing against the Alienware reps on the forums (they seem great in all instances they come out to talk), but I've just had a lot of problems with the people on the phone.

It's not the laptop, it's the money i'm out., also the lies he has proliferating, to different agencies. You don't rip people off and not reap the benefits. Read Bill Gates book Business at the Speed of Thought. In a section, of the book, it states that Mr. Gates spoke, with the CEO, of Dell, and they were talking, about how Dell deals out much, of their customer service, to clients, who buy 100 or more systems. They rather the average consumer sue, than to doll out refunds, when they should. Statistically only 20%, of the people, who threaten a lawsuit actually do. = increased profits. Who are you to tell me what Jesus cares about, and who are you to judge my character? I am not going to fall to your level and throw out insults, And I expect you to afford me the respect, of not attacking my character, or my personal beliefs. Thank you.

Any loyal Consumerist reader (like myself!) would recommend that you file a claim in Small Claims Court. Gather all your evidence and take it up with the legal system. That'll get you faster results than anything else.

Pay the court registration fee, get your affairs in order, then inform Dell that you registered for Small Claims and make the appointment to plead your case. Give Dell the option to settle this, and if not, you'll see them in court. Have your case number handy and give it to Dell when you call. Be sure and ask to be escalated to a manager first.

Religion won't fix a laptop. Lawsuits will. Make that 20% jump up to 21%. Small Claims Court is your friend.

Thank you. Also, thank you for speaking to me with respect. Not much of that going around. I came to that realization myself. The problem is, that I live in Las Vegas and the small claims court system is backed up for months..... basically I would have to take them to superior court and use a lawyer... Problem. In this state there are few consumer attorneys left. They rather practice in California. Are you saying that it would be of benefit, to just file and then let them know that I did? Hoping they will settle?

It doesn't matter. File anyway, get your claim, and let Dell know. If it's a week from now or three months from now, eventually, Dell will pay*. If Dell doesn't want to co-operate it won't matter anyway. Wait it out, fight it out. Take them to Small Claims court, and they'll either fix the issue out of court or they'll send somebody out to represent the company and fight the case against you (which will cost them money either way).

Refunds of this nature are like a game of chess. You've played your pawns, Dell's played theirs. Now it's time to bring out the heavier linebackers and steam roll them.

Oh, and mentioning Consumerist, you may also want to relay your story to them ( www.consumerist.com). Maybe they'll publish it, and in doing so, lend a hand in getting your repairs/replacements in line.

    * As long you have enough evidence to back up your claim.

I would go for the 2 or 3 year warrintee. I seen a few people who had a one year warrintee and few days later the computer crash and they eather need to buy a new laptop or see if they can buy the part online or from the company.

I just bought the additional 2 year warranty.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you get the warranty over the phone, not through the email link that is sent a month before the warranty expires.
Following the email link, I was given a price of 200 GBP on the website. However, I called them up, and they gave it to me at 158 Eur :D
