And those are just three threads off the top of my head. WTF is up with Alienware?

3 defective machine != "every machine".
You're on a tech support forum. I'd be surprised if you could find a single manufacturer subforum that doesn't have at least 10 threads on every single model expressing some sort of defect. -

Those were the three latest machines people on the forum bought. More than half of the machines have been coming defective since the beginning of April.

Yes, from people on the forum. What about the rest of the world?

Please come back after you've taken a statistics class and tell us what's wrong with your sample.

Also keep in mind, my system is currently en route to the mothership for repair. Hopefully it will come back with its issue resolved. Aside from my keyboard problem, note that my review was otherwise positive.

Well...my friend's is nice after the downclocking was fixed..so its not every m15x

So yeah, not everyone's machine is faulty, but there undoubtedly has been a slide in AW quality recently. -
I got mine mid april and it's fine so far. Just played Stalker for 2 hours...no DC. Played the Witcher and Bioshock last night...no DC. 10k plus all 3 times I benched 3d06. I'm on the old bios too.The stupid touch controls don't work so well, but whatever. I can access those options other ways. It gets hot, but you knew it would. I say I got a good one...so far.

It's true that some people have problems ranging from software updates or needing to get rid of Nero and others who are very unfortunate have serious problems that require sending back or cancelling orders etc.
If every machine bought was perfect that would be great but, it's like anything new, there always slight issues, it's the same with cars or anything else.
I tend to think of them as teathing problems for AW, they are still finding out what goes wrong woth there new product. It's no good for us who buy the new products but...
Hell, that's what tech support is there for...
Your statement is fine except that it might put off future buyers of what is a very good machine.
Just my 2p.

Got mine on April 18, no problems so far (fingers crossed)

ok, i know i am one of the unlucky ones in the above links but there is one thing people are forgetting:
for the amount of us that have received faulty laptops dont forget there will be many many more that receive perfect working systems. customers that are happy dont normaly visit forums like this as they get on with life and dont have any reason to visit us on here. -

That's fair enough, but Alienware sells high end gaming systems, not average spreadsheet processors, so I would imagine that the people buying their computers are probably into gaming and would have an interest in
computers anyway - hence probably frequent computer forums like this.
So to say that only those with computer problems come to forums like these and that other Alienware customers sit at home keeping themselves to themselves isn't accurate either. -
-
I got mine yesterday and have no problems. It's also worth noting that the people on this forum are more tech-savvy than average users so will probably notice imperfections and slowdowns a lot more than others, and they will beleive those problems to be deal breakers where others may just live with it.

I have missed Absinthe42's.....Interesting... Topics for crying over lol
It's true, i'd guess that unless someone is tech savvy and enjoys helping others, when they have problems, most people probably join with a problem and once fixed, don't bother....until the next problem!
Me, i enjoy helping, sharing knowledge etc.

Remember mrwater? The guy who got the first m15x?
But yeah, there's no doubt a forum like this overrepresents the amount of faults given that tendency to not come here when you have a problem. But there have been a couple guys who were here before they had problems, and then received a laptop with problems.
Anyway, in the end, even if the number of problems is actually on par (i.e. in an "average" range) some of the problems have just been ridiculous given how AW is supposed to do its "200 point inspection". -
true. i believe the "200-point quality check" is utter rubbish. seriously, a guy on this german forum i'm also a member of got his m15x WITHOUT THE NAME PLATE. now how in the world would that get through a 200-point quality check?

Sorry I just would of thought most high end laptop users would prob have an interest.
Can't see many people paying 3/4/5 thousand euro on a such a system unless their somewhat into gaming or using coding/rendering applications where you have to know a bit about computers.
If you only wanted to use it to look at the internet why wouldn't you buy a cheap, long battery life dell or something? Hence I figured such people would wan't to be kept in the loop about potential upgrades/ bios fixes etc. -

And I reckon there is a higher possibility that things go wrong with a higher-end system. Also remember that AW is an innovator in this case, the M15X is the FIRST 15inch with an 8800 card, and first-movers while they have the advantage of being first, is tredding into unknown territory, in that case it should be expected that there will be problems although I congratulate AW for accomplishing such feat 'reasonably' well but I think it can only get better with better updates etcetc.

i havent found a problem with my laptop yet and im still here

I'm going to close this thread because it has no real purpose. As noted, you've got three instances of problems and that is far too small and too biased a sample to make any sort of conclusions from. Therefore, this data has no value.
Is it just me, or has every machine Alienware shipped since the middle of April Been Defective?
