My M17x has shipped, and it has the ty lcd - is it possible to change the screen from the 1440x900 to the 1920x1200 aftermarket or something?
If anyone knows anything about this, could they give me advice on how to do it?

Return it and get a new one. It will cost you much less.

it is not doable except through Dell as the screen is built into the lid of the laptop

Possible only if you get the entire assembly from Dell.

The 30pin is a bit different on the M17x screen.

Dude, if you are not happy with the screen return it and get another one. If you are paying this much you should at the least be comfortable with your purchase. No amount of annoyance or time on the phone with Dell is not worth getting a config you really want. Return it and get it the way you want.

TONS of people do it all the time on this forum. It's worth it man. Just do it. No other way around it. Say it came with a defect or that you are getting blue screens a lot. End of story, no restocking fees.

Returns (in the US) are 21 days from invoice date (which is the day it ships).

Unfortunately, I'm leaving on an exchange program in around a week, so I wouldn't have time for the whole returning and getting it process. My question was mainly if there was any way (through dell or otherwise) to get it changed after I get back into the US.

Sure. Just buy the entire wuxga lcd/lid assembly from dell.

    Proabably run about $400.

I am planning to return my m17x once i receive it. What is the best way? I know that you said refuse the shipment, or should i receive the shipment, call customer care and get an RMA. Which process is faster for getting a refund, so that i can order a new one(with 4870s). Thanks
