Hi,
I'm new to NBR forum and Alienware, just bought my m17 about half a month ago, but it has so many problems and really disappointed me, I used to expect a laptop system from AW would be free of minor bugs, but my laptop has so many would be considered as a cheap "unprofessional" problems, for like the chassis, the line stay obove the optical drive is wide open (the one that like like a small ruler, it used to stick with the laptop, but mine it isn't), and also the optical drive, I can't almost most of the time close it without having to push on the left side and also lift it up a little bit in order to push it in. And the illuminated keyboard is something that I can say "useless" on my system, The light on the numpad can barely see clearly without having to sit up and get my eyes closer, or all other buttons except some in the middle of the keyboard.
Then I decided to give away 3,4 school weeks just to send it back and get those problem fixed (especially the first 2 problems are really bad to me), but the main point is, there is no FedEd office around my city (North Vancouver, I'm an Internaltional student, and just came here about 1 month), and just for sending the laptop, I have to pay an extra 50 bucks for taxi, but still can't find any fedex office ( the closest 1 I heard that is 40 mins driving from my school), so I Decided to use UPS ( which is 5 mins by bus from my school), but I didn't chose any protection coverage for my shipping (now I know how stupid I was), and when I asked one of the AW representative about the possibility of my system got stolen (I read a topic in this forum about this case so I really worry if my laptop got stolen too, and I asked them if my system got stolen, what would happen? But they said that due to the warranty policy they have nothing to do with this (I agree), but the point is, I just bought the laptop for 3200 freaking bucks, and it's a a f****** piece of crap (the system also, got the blue screen of death so many time, about 4,5 times during 2 weeks??), and now I have to send it back over 3,4 weeks, and live a boring life in a homestay family without Internet to talk to my family, and for my school stuffs?? If my system get stolen, after a few days using it, I'll just thrown 3200 over the window? The funny thing is all the "misadvertisement they showed me in my order about all the bull 200-points quality or build it as if it were ur own craps??
Ok back to the point I want to know here is, is it safe to send my laptop by UPS?? Any chance of it to get stolen and what can I do if it happen?? I know I was just over-reacted but, the way they sell "high quality" system and all these kind of support just make me pissed off. But if I'm going to buy a new laptop in the future I would choose alienware again, I just like the style, but hope they can get a better customer service.
I'm a pretty high temper guy, so sorry for my words. And please give me some advise about this.

You can purchase insurance on the shipment. It'll probably cost an extra $20 or so.
-
Again, thank you very much lithius. I appriciated. -
you pay the shipping back to them and they pay it back to you
[pretty sure}
no refund on insurance -
to remember:
1ºmarketing = real life <- not true
2ºalways pay insurance in shipments -
Thank you for all the replies guys, any1 know what is the chance of a shipment get stolen?? Is it happen most of the time or occationally?? I'm really worry now even they say that it still in transit.
-
if ur shipping back in the original box it would be higher lol
use a different box and it will be pretty low ...
either way its pretty low -
, but the point is, I sent it already, and I just wonder if I can buy the insurance right now (after my system already been sent), another thing I would like to know is how high the chance of the laptop get stolen.
-
i just told you pretty low
if you used the big black box with a AW head people could be liek oohhhh snap steal:
if you used a brown regular box people would be like meh not worth it
either way the chances of it being stolen is low -
. (sorry, I didn't notice about ur earlier post)
Actually I used 2 boxes to packed the system just like when they shipped it to me, and the outer box doesn't have an Alien head on it (even though it's a black box), I hope everything is fine, if my laptop got stolen, I would jump off the bridge, LOL.
Thanks Moo -
lol
just dont worry
you can still try to get insurance -
.
I'll try to buy the insurance tommorow, even the shipping could be delivered on tommorow too, but I rather lose 20 bucks than 3200 buck. LOL -
i understand i do own one to
-
I'd be more worried about the fact that they are going to wipe your hard drive when they get it. I hope your data is backed up. I had to send mine in for a dead motherboard and they still wiped the drive.
-
when you upgrade the mobo sometimes you will have issues ... i have had bios unactivate vista and it not to even boot up
on some it has worked fine -
.
@Moo: your selling ur m17 already?? Waiting for the alpowerful eh?? -
need better battery life
so allpowerful is looking good but im not sure yet
love to stay in the AW section though -
By the way, I just contacted the UPS store and they told me that I can purchase an insurance right now while the order has already been processed, Pretty worried about this now.
-
Well they said you can get the insurance right. So if you are worried get the freakin insurance. Whats a measly 20 dollars for peace of mind on a 3200 dollar laptop. You'd have to be stupid not to do that. Sorry for the harshness.
-
Ok!! Ur right buddy, I already admitted my stupidity for not buying the insurance by the first time I send the laptop, but all I need now is some one to tell me about the chance of the shipment got stolen while in the shipping process,
Anyway, pray to god, nothing bad is going to happen. -
If you got the shipping label from Alienware, then Insurance is always included.
Chances of getting your system stolen are slim to none. I wouldn't even bother stressing over that. The chances are still there, yes, but I still wouldn't worry.
Last thing, each motherboard has it's own DMI that Windows registers itself to. Most of the time, when your motherboard is changed, the DMI is also changed. Which is why you have to reinstall windows (Not all the time) because the DMI windows was registered to no longer exist. -
i told you your more likely to get a free laptop then get it stolen
-
Unless you go stamping "Steal Me" all over it.
-
i just assumed he knew better
-
I would hope so.

"I don't know what happened officer"
Is it safe to send a $3200 laptop system back to AW for repair by UPS???
