3) "boutique brand", exclusive styling, matte finishes, exclusive software.
on a side note, m17=Whitebook. -

because i have always wanted one and the matte finish insteaqd of glossy so i dont have to worry about fingerprints and the skull cap design. also the whitebook is the same laptop as the m17 they just look differnt. they are the same laptop period lol alienware paints them and puts a lid. plus the whitebook /m17 has alot of potential it holds the world record right now 17063 3dmark 06 so its fast if you max it out and the m17 is built like a tank solid no hinge issues and cracks etc just solid -
-
depends on your usage....which means I am not really support of m17....unless it can have smaller size and longer battery life then I'm sold.
If you want to carry around a lot and have long battery life, go for m15x if you are lucky enough not to get defected hinge(use skullcap is the best)
-
I have an NP8660 and i love it but with that being said if the m17 was out during the end of summer i 100% would of bought it over the Sager. I know people that have them and they are a beastly laptop.
I know a kid that smashed his against a wall and it was fine... only thing i would worry about it the heat. Also the many programs dont like crossfire from my experiances but you can always turn that off. -
1. M17
2. Mine cost me $2,900 (CAD) after $400 Canadian discount, taxes and S&H; specs. in my sig.
3. The "Alienware" name, very clean out-of-the-box software configuration (no bloatwaare = no need to format), matte finish (M17 only) and of course... An Alienware hat! -
Stay clear away from some Clevo models. Some like the D900K have a very poorly designed motherboard. So far my D900K has went through 6 motherboards, fried a gpu, and fried three memory cards. After owning it, I can never recommend anyone to buy a Clevo. The machine was and is a absolute nightmare.
Do not ever buy from Voodoo, from first hand experience, they are crooks. They dont care when something breaks. They make you pay shipping both ways, shop fees, and installation fees even when under warranty. This can cost upwards of $300 for something which should be covered free under warranty.
Oh yeah, once they fix one thing, the warranty is over with them, they make you pay full for the next thing which breaks, plus shipping and other fees.
Stay away from RJTECH, if you are buying an extended warranty. Their extended warranty is offered by REPAIRMASTER. (PLEASE GOOGLE REPAIRMASTER, THAT IS THE SHADIEST WARRANTY SERVICE KNOWN TO MAN).
Whenever you see warranty by repairmaster, run away and go elsewhere. They never fix any problems, they always pull the excuse that they couldnt replicate the problem, even when it happens every time.
Do your research before buying a system. Email or PM members who actually own the system, and ask for their personal experience. Ask for their problems and what they like.
Research is a great tool, spend some time doing it.
And buy from a reputable seller.
Do not buy any system which has a warranty from repairmaster, and do not buy from voodoo.

The m17 is a badass machine though the m15x is a bit cheaper and more portable....personally I wish I had an m17. Oh well another couple years and something new will be out and I'll get that.
Buy AW because they make great machines and unlike other boutique brands are somewhat affordable (and apparently) have good service -
No offense K-TRON, I understand that you have bad experience with Clevo but many of us don't and you don't have to react so distaste towards it (And I'm sorry for you, that's really terrible especially a notebook that expensive). Maybe you can start giving him advice if he end up wanting to get the Clevo.
Anyway, to answer Gindis90's question;
1. Yea as everyone mentioned, M17.
2. Well depends on your configuration of course.
3. Because everyone recognize the "Alien Head" Just like the "Apple... Head"
Maybe no bloatware? But so is Sager and OCZ Whitebook.
And finally, maybe OCZ Whitebook is better than M17 in terms of ability to overclock, said Alienware has the M17 locked from overclocking via bios. I'm not sure about this as I don't stay up to date with these product.
But I absolutely hate the glossy finish of OCZ Whitebook and despite of the overclocking issue (If its true), I'll still pick the M17. -
nic, thanks for that, I edited my original post it is much better now.

I wish I had known that before buying from them, but I didnt do enough research. I bought from probably the worst retailer.

@Gindis90
Its all depend on you whether its worth it or not. If you have the extra cash and enjoy the fame that Alienware brings you, why not?
The "Alien Head" is well more publicly recognized than say... "Sager", "What? What's that?" -

I spent approx. two months of surfing various websites and right from the start AW's M17 was the one I was going to buy. Couldn't find anything better and I think a well equipped M17 is going to last for a long time, since it's got a lot of power and it's very upgradeable. I didn't want to go with DDR2 systems or other bottlenecked setups and since I don't plan on overclocking (at least not yet) I have no issue with that either.
And the matte finish, skullcap design is just something you don't have in other laptops.
A perfect desktop replacement and portable working/gaming system with no compromises. I think it's worth of every penny it ate. -

Not really an option now that Voodoo has been eaten by HP, and no longer makes gaming notebooks. Just one outdated thin-and-light model that was designed to compete with the specs of the first model Mac Air, but didn't ship until the better spec version was announced by Apple.
I have to give credit to Dell for leaving Alienware intact and letting them focus on their core business.
Sorry to hijack your thread, but in my defense it had been taken over by painkillers before I got to it.
My next computer will probably be an M17 in the price range you are looking at, although I am tempted to get the just-announced lower-speed quad core because I use my laptop for video editing, and my editor is designed to use all of the cores. For gaming, I would get the 2.5 GHz dual-core (the cheapest with 6MB cache) on a tight budget.

Hi All
The guy who reviewed M17 in this article is some sort of retard... Fingerprint reader useless? 10 min. on battery less than HDX 18 and that makes him hot?
His fps (26) in Fear are wrong and he as a hardware reviewer should know it.
Cheers -

Voodoo still might have something new coming up. -
haha the firefly is so ridiculous. it'll never get past the current experimental stage.
-
lol yeah the whole system looks pretty awkward!
The specs are decent though.
Is it worth it ? Alienware Fans come here plz.
