I am fearful that my new m15x is running too hot. Please provide me with advise on the following temps.

    Specs are:

    t9300 processor
    4gb RAM
    9800m GT

When running Crysis my temps are as follows after only about 10 minutes of game play.

    GPU: 96C
    CPU: 47C
    HDD 48C

I was using CPUID hardware monitor to monitor the temperatures.

There have been people who have reached 100C on their GPU for their m15x. As long as it does not reach threshold, it should be fine.

If you're still concerned, it'll help if you bought a notebook cooler and update your graphics card driver.

Jeeeez! 96C! Dude, that is too hot. Invest in a notebook cooler for sure before that thing fries!

What are your ambient room temps like? That has an effect on the GPU temps as well. When my room is warm enough, I reach 100C but if the room is cool then the max it'll hit is 88C.

Dang...I never go above 80-81 C max. But you should invest in a notebook cooler.

The room is not hot at all, about 70F. The thing that converns me the most is that this GPU runs at 74C at idle. The heat coming from the exhaust port at the rear right of the computer is like a hair dryer, really hot. After a while it is so hot that I can't even touch the grill covering the outlet.

Keep us updated. My m15x will be delivered next week. I was hoping the 9800m gt's temps would be the same if not cooler than the 8800 gtx. Scary to think that might not be the case

I have updated the drivers to 179.13 as Whizzo suggested. It seems to have helped. After the same amount of gameplay, 10 to 15 minutes my readings are:

    CPU: 44c
    GPU: 87C
    HDD: 49C

The idle temperature has seen a huge decrease to 58C average with a low of 49C.

well there you go then. idle temp for the GPU still seems a bit high, though... what's your room temp?

The idle temp is now down to 49C. Room temp is about 70F.

That sounds much better, My previous M5550's idle temps where 64c.. with a notebook cooler they were 58c. So 49c sound great to me since my standards are low coming from the M5550. Whizzo ..what are your idle temps with your gtx?

mine's doing 50°C right now, which is a normal idle temp for me.
