I know this is a forum so most people that have no problems don't post but I can't help but wonder, after all the threads I see, if the m17x is reliable as it is and safe to order now.
I'm in no hurry to buy a laptop and was looking at the m17x but there's seem to be a lot of problems with stuttering issue and SLI drivers etc...
So, should I wait?

Well... since you asked...
Here is how I am approaching it:
1. Its a new model
2. One of the first implementations of a mGPU
Keeping those two points in mind, one has to allow AW/Dell time to work out the kinks.
I am sure its only a matter of time (hopefully sooner rather than later *HINT* @ Dell) for another BIOS update to be released.
As for NVIDIA driver support - again, only a matter of time.
The only real complaint I personally have is the system glitches to a black screen when waking from a sleep or hibernation state. This is most likely a driver issue and will be addressed by Dell/AW or the user community.
In the end its up to you to determine if you want to wait or not. The system is usable and stable for the most part in my opinion. -
Thanks Batboy. I have an old XPS m1710...never had a problem with it. This is also a Desktop Replacement so for me the laptop is not just for games but also for work where I make my money...so a laptop that is not functional is a big deal for me.

The M17X has memory leakage problem which is bad for playing games or copying files over 1 gig.
i sufferered from this and it's really annoying because my laptop comes to a grinding halt and i cant do nothing but force shut down. -
Also, the reason you see so many troublesome posts is because people come here when something goes wrong, the other 90% are happily gaming.

I've my M17x for a week now and touch wood it has not missed a beat - completely faultless.

The other thing is averagejo3 35% do not know about the issues and are working the trouble over time. Which they go on alienware site or call them.

I've never heard of the memory leakage problem. I've copied multi-gig files over our shared drive. I've gamed for hours on end mostly trouble free. Yes, I have had the occasional crash, but in all fairness, I've gotten occasional crashes on every computer I've owned, including Apple II and Amigas....
The biggest problems I've had, which today is now fixed, was my brick died in less than a month. The other problem was an OS issue which was, frankly, my own fault for causing. Otherwise, I have been perfectly happy with my m17x. -
