Is there anyone playing blue-ray movies on their tv with HDMI and getting sound?

I have this very frustrating problem with my m17x all powerful.

One of the reason I ordered it with a blue ray disk was because it has HDMI output and I wanted to be able to watch movies on my 1080p plasma tv (Panasonic Viera)

I've been trying since the day I got it and it has never worked. I tried with the PowerDVD version that came with the computer, I purchased the upgrade to Ultra 9 and have all the latest patches and it still does not work. When I connect the HDMI cable, I get the video just fine but no sound. I have the correct option (SPDIF or whatever it's called) selected and the sound just does not work. I know the tv recognizes sound from the HDMI input because this is the same cable I'm currently using with my Dish receiver on the tv.

I've researched this many times and posted about it before. I just can't believe that more people are not trying to do this.

Is there anyone out there with the latest gen m17x using the HDMI output to play blue ray movies with sound on their tv?

    Thanks.

Since the HDMI on the gpu is only video out you would have to use the audio jack to output sound. So you'd have to connect the audio jack to your stereo speakers.

I'm not sure on the exact input, or if you'd need a converter. I do know you cannot output sound via HDMI because that video out is coming straight from the GPU.

I had the same problem until I did what EtownsFinest advises. You need to go in to your sound settings and set hdmi as the default. Its a pain in the butt to ahve to switch it everytime, but it is what it is.
