Is there anyway to control the speed of the fans yourself?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there was anyway to control the speed of the fans yourself on the m15x. I say this because my laptop hdd is running at around 50-50 degrees, and I find this way to hot. And I think it could be affecting my performance?
Alienware should allow a program to control fan speeds, especially with it running so hot.
    Who's with me on this?

    Thanks

AFAIK there's no way to manually control the m15x' fan speeds.

Would there be a way to manually control them? If AW allowed it? I know for one, if we could manually control them, I'd like to them be at high all the time, when i'm in a hot room or im doing something where it requires alot of power etc.
    And im using bios x34

Use X36 if you want them high almost all of the time. You can dim them down whenever you want by switching to stealth mode.

Edit: Yeah, what Mr. Moo said.

hmmm... interesting idea. and then select that partition as primary boot option, right? might work, but AFAIK, you need to add some certain files to USB thumb drives if you want to boot from them, so you might have to add those files to the partition too.

I might be wrong, but, with the x36, the only fan that's high most of the time is the CPU fan. Not the GPU fan, so, it won't keep the GPU any cooler.

Hmm. The question is would AW unlock it, so we could? Or make a quick program to do this?

Or would findvikas be able to?

What sort of speed do they go down to when idle in stealth mode? I've been holding off going to X36 because of the noise but the audio clicking and popping is getting frustrating in X34.

not from my experience. but i may be wrong. my gpu fan runs a lot when with the 8800 card while gaming. when i switch to the internal, it infrequently comes on.
so while your statement may be true, i can say for me it is the opposite.

the noise level is neglegable dependant on your task. it has yet to bother me even though i can hear it at times. most of the time i am too involved in the game to notice.

Regardless, I would assume it'd help circulate airflow. My GPU temp has been about 5-6C degrees cooler and my HDD temperature is about 4C cooler with X36 (mind you, this is considering a notebook cooler is not plugged in.) I have a pretty good feeling it's because of X36.

napbree did you say you were idling at 50c? What are you using to monitor your temps? Im using HWmoniter and I idle at the same.

If clevo makes the guts of the m15x you could try GetThermal, it's what clevo uses for programming and testing the d900t/k fans, and i think the guts of the m9700 too(not sure on that).
