Hi,
I was wondering if there was anyway to control the speed of the fans yourself on the m15x. I say this because my laptop hdd is running at around 50-50 degrees, and I find this way to hot. And I think it could be affecting my performance?
Alienware should allow a program to control fan speeds, especially with it running so hot.
Who's with me on this?
Thanks

You can try SpeedFan, but odds are, it wont work.
-
what BIOS u have?
-
AFAIK there's no way to manually control the m15x' fan speeds.
-
Would there be a way to manually control them? If AW allowed it? I know for one, if we could manually control them, I'd like to them be at high all the time, when i'm in a hot room or im doing something where it requires alot of power etc.
And im using bios x34 -
try x36 bios its saposed to be better at colling
EDIT yea what Oceanus said
-
Use X36 if you want them high almost all of the time. You can dim them down whenever you want by switching to stealth mode.
Edit: Yeah, what Mr. Moo said. -
yeah...what they said....that is why i asked what BIOS you were on...
-
ryujin with out your question i could of never gave the answer so i give my thanks to you
-
Hmm, anyway to install x36 if i don't have a memory stick, or cd drive at hand?
-
there no other way i know of 2 options cd or usb drive .......somebody lse may know one i havent done bios in a while
-
what about if i made a small parititon for it?
-
hmmm... interesting idea. and then select that partition as primary boot option, right? might work, but AFAIK, you need to add some certain files to USB thumb drives if you want to boot from them, so you might have to add those files to the partition too.
-
hehe....word...
linky for info on BIOS update with and with out flash drive.
edit: may not help if you dont have the cd or flash drive....my bad. -
that is a good idea...plausible ....some one test ! my baby is to new to be trying stuff plus its not a m15x
-
I might be wrong, but, with the x36, the only fan that's high most of the time is the CPU fan. Not the GPU fan, so, it won't keep the GPU any cooler.
-
Hmm. The question is would AW unlock it, so we could? Or make a quick program to do this?
Or would findvikas be able to? -
What sort of speed do they go down to when idle in stealth mode? I've been holding off going to X36 because of the noise but the audio clicking and popping is getting frustrating in X34.
-
not from my experience. but i may be wrong. my gpu fan runs a lot when with the 8800 card while gaming. when i switch to the internal, it infrequently comes on.
so while your statement may be true, i can say for me it is the opposite.
the noise level is neglegable dependant on your task. it has yet to bother me even though i can hear it at times. most of the time i am too involved in the game to notice. -
Hey Napbree... nothing is impossisble but I am not sure how to do it. Oh.. BTW I am in Seattle these days attending TechReady. Itz chilling cold here...
-
ohh nice. I bet you have no over heating problems with your m15x lol.
-
Regardless, I would assume it'd help circulate airflow. My GPU temp has been about 5-6C degrees cooler and my HDD temperature is about 4C cooler with X36 (mind you, this is considering a notebook cooler is not plugged in.) I have a pretty good feeling it's because of X36.
-
napbree did you say you were idling at 50c? What are you using to monitor your temps? Im using HWmoniter and I idle at the same.
-
Well anything from 50-60 degrees. Atm my cpu temprature seems to be quite high.
-
If clevo makes the guts of the m15x you could try GetThermal, it's what clevo uses for programming and testing the d900t/k fans, and i think the guts of the m9700 too(not sure on that).
-
the m15x is a Quanta barebone, not Clevo.
-
So much for that idea. Donno then.
-
what are you using to monitor your temps?
-
HWmonitor..
-
I agree for you cpu. mine are at 27 and 32. gpu is at 50
-
pleasee help...i install the 64bit on my alien desktop..but the alienfx don t work with,i still have my 32bit on my old hard drive and and the fx software works perfect...pleasee..help to fix it.. thanks
