I have that crappy rattle sound all the time when the fans downclock.. has anyone found a way to keep them blowing that sweet misty air at all times?

So far, apparently not. I've not come across anyone posting about doing it on Alienware M17x R1/2. I'm curious about doing this too - rather, to keep the fans going one level faster than the designed, so that it doesn't reach the temp where it throttles back and runs cooler overall. Posted asking about this a long while back.
Yes, that may reduce fan life, but the occasional re-lubrication might work.
Btw, that crappy rattle might be 3-6 months notice for more fan problems. I know a lot of ppl have it, but mine started a while back and I ignored it. Now I've got a fan problem, which I'm hoping lubrication will fix.
And to the usual response about ppl mistakenly (or not) slowing down the fans - simple enough solution is for nvidia/dell to give us settings to increase from the default speed settings or lower the temperature thresholds. That way, the fan is at greater risk than the chips & memory. -

There is currently no solution to force max fan speeds. This is one of the many features on my M17x R1 bios wishlist.
And for the throttling comment, in the R1 throttling occurs due to power draw not temps. I can make my laptop throttle when it is in a freezer. -
Noob q, does any current laptop (be it Dell or any other brand) actually support fan control in the BIOS?

I believe Clevo laptops can do it. I know on the older models Fn+F2 was fan control on the keyboards as well

Interesting. This comes up so often - it really should be implemented. I was never a "fan" of i8kfangui - to many issues with that one. I recall (when I owned the XPS M1730), many 1730 owners were interested in this.
I much rather have a manufacturer provided option in the BIOS rather than a third party app which may or may not actually be working correctly.
I am not talking fancy controls or anything. An option to lock in max fans would be nice. +1 on fan control -

I agree, it has been in my BIOS wishlist since the start haha

Seriously, I actually got a pair of cryo lx coolers so I could dial a baseline. Now, except while hardcore gaming, the fans are nearly off, and I can control the fan level myself.
Is there anyway to keep fans on max??
