    yes it will work fine.

easy to install, the drive bay is on the bottom of the laptop under the large acess cover.

remove the battery, then the 2 screws and slide the cover off.

The laptop should come with the drive caddy and adaptor, screws. if not call Dell and get it sent to you.

Okay, second question, how would I go about installing windows 7 on it, should I delete it off of the hard drive that comes with the M17 or what?

(I honestly don't know much about computers)

No just remove the hard drive and stick in the new one. Then pop in the Windows 7 DVD that AW gives you and hit F12 to get a boot menu, select the DVD drive to boot off of and then follow the prompts to install Windows 7. Just accept all defaults except for the obvious stuff (time, user name, computer name, etc).

hehe no problem, most of us here are more than willing to help out.

If you have a retail version of Windows 7, then you can just install on the SSD and activate without a problem. Your original hard drive will still have Windows 7 on it.
Because of lame admin restrictions, you might have problems simply deleting.
What I would do is, first, back up all data you want to save off the original drive, preferably to an external USB hard drive. Then reformat the original hard drive. Voila, you have a new, empty hard drive you can use for your pleasure.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it, I am still eagerly awaiting my M17x, I'm hoping that the $3500 I spent on it is worth it.

My M17x is one of the few big ticket items I never experienced even a millisecond of buyers remorse... :D :D

The only thing is with Win 7 you won't be able to get the Alienware theme working correctly. They still have not updated their software and if you install the vista version, it just destroys everything... :)

Meaning some icons are windows icons, some are AW, etc...

To answer your question. You don't... You replace your current hard drive with the SSD meaning you install your SSD in BAY 1.

The PC will boot from it automatically.
