Well at the ubject says my m15x just arrived, well 1.5 hrs ago :D

    Initial impressions:

-The screen wobble does not seem to be present at all.
    -No keyboard lag or flex.
-There was some inital creaking when i opened up the lid but after opening it up a few more times it has disappeared. I suspect the initial creaking was do to it being brand new.
    -No scratches or blemishes anywhere.
-When i opened it up to replace the RAM everything was clean and nothing looked out of place. Although there was tht one blue wire not connected to anything by the wireless card.
-Touch pad is actually pretty nice, don't think i will use the stickers.
-Touch controls are very responsive. I was expecting to have a very difficult time with the volume slider but this was not the case at all.

I haven't had time to stress it just yet, but when i do i will let everyone know the results. I believe the new bios came already installed as i saw on the document on the desktop that the bios was X32, so i am assuming it is installed.

When i do stress it i will take some pics (forgot to charge the camera, doh!) and have a longer review.

    -Syth

    the blue wire is normal.

you should use print screen instead of using a camera to take pics of the screen. the print screen will make it alot more clear.

Congrats! Nice setup too! the T9300 was a very good choice, and the RAM upgrade should keep Vista happy! :)

best of luck! that most of the common problems around here don't affect you.

Syth, I'm really happy for you (honestly). :)

There's some things I would like to ask you to test, if you don't mind.

    1- Webcam quality
2- Security lock. Do Kensington chains fit? (this will let us know whether something has been done regarding the case)
3- When you mean there's no screen wobbliness, is the screen rigid? How do you think it will hold when on a car or plane?

I think it would also be very nice if we could have some monitoring results. Playing Crysis would show you the GPU running at max. Orthos will deal with the CPU. Use Rivatuner for monitoring GPU clocks and temps and RMark CPU clock for CPU speeds and Thermofan for CPU temps.

Lastly, just another curiosity... I never experienced Keyboard lag myself but I never use the touchpad as I like to use an external mouse at all times. Can you confirm you do not have the lag even when using the touchpad at the same time?

Again, I'm very happy for you and I hope this will give some hope to the rest of us.

That's a common issue... I think sleep and hybernation modes will always give you problems. I never use this...
I think it might be mainly because of Vista and some conflicts it might have with some of AW's software. It's not a big thing...

for some of us it IS a big thing. I think I'm having some driver-related faults of my own. with the 8700M GT card, I think my Video drivers aren't waking up from sleep.

therefore, sleep, is a one-way trip.

if anyone has any suggestions on what could fix my problem, I'd be more than willing to entertain those ideas and do some testing on my system. for more system information, specs are in my sig.

@Milcs - sure i'll check the webcam. Never had one before so might take me a bit to figuer out how to opperate it :)
    - security lock not sure how i can test it for you as i didn't get the optional lock from alienware, i'll see if my friends have one that i can test.
-Yes the screen is rigid and should hold up pretty well on a plane or in a car.

I'll definately do some stressing and monitoring, just need to dl the programs. Not going to be able to test crysis as i don't have it, however i will test it with Age of Conan.

Yup i can comfirm there is no lag when using both the touchpad and the mouse at the same time (my mom was just goofing around with the touch pad while i was using the mouse to freak her out :) )

That "patch" to fix using the touchpad and keyboard at the same time doesn't even work for me.

    absolutely.

All my drivers are direct from the AW site save one... my wireless network. Intel has a driver available from their website that was newer than the one from AW, however, going and looking at the AW support site, I think they have the updated one posted.

all in all, everything is from AW (more or less) with no modification. I had a warning about an application that was slowing the sleeping/waking process, so I uninstalled it. no help. not that I ever had the app running.

I have had problems with the sleep mode on every laptop I have owned, my acer wouldn't open anything after it came back from sleep mode, my hp seemed to drain it's battery more on sleep mode, and my dell would sometimes not turn the screen back on, the computer would be running with no picture and I had to restart to get it back.
I have learned to just not use sleep mode on laptops.

Hey Syth, your "new baby" sounds great, even better as you appear to have a completely fixed m15 without defects.

I hope that you have many years of happy "notebooking".... or gaming etc.

Pictures would be good too... if you've got time (no hurry, main thing is that you enjoy your notebook, not just test it lol)

Nice! I'm pretty sure Alienware is shipping out updated chassises, which would be great because I'm saving up some extra cash from a job to (eventually...) get a m15x! Congrats on your system! Would you mind taking some pictures, I'm curious to see if Alienware added any extra changes in addition to fixing all of the defects.

Oh no... there we go again. THERE IS NOT UPDATED CHASSIS! It's exactly the same as in the beggining. Some people have problems, some don't. Someone received last week and it reported wobbliness and etc.
Come on guys... Don't let yourselves get carried away on suppositions. It's really bad as it really lead people to believe things that are not true.

An updated chassis is possible but not in the formal way that you think. When they order more chassis's from the factory it is very simple for them to tell them to make the next batch with a little extra material in problem points. This would not constitute as an update on the chassis but is a very often occurance from many companies. Please refrain from flaming people who post their ideas milcs. Thanks

Line, now you are crossing the line. I wont tell you this again. Please stop making offensive comments regarding whatever I say, as you are starting to really annoy me. Can you say something more constructive besides "You are flaming you are flaming you are flaming you are flaming"? Thanks...

Obviously you don't seem to know everything that's going on. Couple of weeks ago someone created a thread saying "New improved chassis... blah blah". All bullsh**. This is nothing short than a lie, not backed up by any true facts. This conveys WRONG and FALSE information to people.

You decided to "fight" me and start that flaming speech against me (which you are going to stop, cheers) just because you want to say something. Well boy, I am sure me and you want the same thing. That the chassis is indeed improved and they come up with solutions for real problems like wobbliness and overheating. If they do... great. Until there are facts to back up these statements, please refrain from saying them as they are leading people to grow false hopes.

    Thanks.

Tex, those are very good news. The case problems are minor. The only bigger problem with the case, in my opinion, is really the screen wobbliness.

It would be nice if you new guys could make some tests for Temps as these are the biggest and serious problems that we have to check whether they have been cleared out.

    Cheers,
    M.

I agree with milks. dont be calling him a flamer. his posts were not causing trouble. yours are antagonistic, so you are the flamer.

the only difference i see quanta doing is perhaps using higher grade crappy material. theat my own opinion. im soure loads of people like it and many buyers get a non creaky laptop, but i wouldnt want to spend thousands of dollars to possibly get a prone defective laptop.
