Interesting it says the M17x has i7 ... Wonder if they are talking about spring though before the refresh actually hits...
-
From the way they announced this, the M17X i7 will be available within days or weeks...
No refresh on the 5870's nor on the LED screen. That's a shame... -
I hope they keep 1920x1200 for the M17x.
-
-
-
Is it going to be an entire new chipset? I'm guessing yes
-
The only reason I would want to change mine to an i7 is because the chipset will be updated and it will allow me to change to better i7 CPU in the 12 months or so. Also, it seems the i7 is much easier to OC than the QX9300 since it OC itself... -

so there is no newer gpu's?
-
Who knows they still might offer RGB LED for both M15x and M17x since engadget mentions tweaks to the M15x. A tweak is usually a display upgrade and/or new component support. I wish I was at the CES, I'd have asked that CEO why Alienware M15x throttles.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
they might go 1920*1080 led....
-
I think the key element they need to implement is USB 3.0. By doing that they would future proof the refreshed models for some time. I'm ready to buy a computer, I'd like it to be a proper Alienware or Mac, but it depends on who tosses USB 3.0 in them first..
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i dont really care about 3.0 right now. it's a nice feature but not the first thing i'm looking for right now.
-
USB 3.0 is quite useless as of right now and for the next few years unless you actually transfer data to external HD on a daily basis.
I can't even believe you are considering a MAC vs an Alienware M17X. It's not the same use, not the same PC, MAC sucks... -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
it wounldn't be a few years but maybe next year. i use e-sata for big transfers so i'm godd right now.
-
I really hope the refreshed M17X won't take longer than a week for pre-order.
-
Hmm, I just bought mine and have a 5 year CC warranty, Now I'm thinking of selling...lol
-
How long ago did you buy yours?
Just return it if you are within the 21 days return period. -
was about to order one with Intel® Core2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz.
so should I wait a bit now ? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
no. you could just buy mines.
pm me. -
-
lol of course you should wait. The m17x refresh should be available to order in the next day or two (possibly even tonight). -
I am selling mine to my brother and getting the refreshed one.
-
no ati 5870? Shame. The i7 isn't going to make any difference as far as gaming is concerned. If you recently have a m17x..i wouldn't be sweating the refresh if only a different cpu is offered.
-
Nevertheless if your spend that much on a laptop, USB 3 should come standard - but I guess AW is changing fast nowadays. Just my 2 cent.
I'm surprised that they are refreshing so quickly, guess with the size of Dell, they could afford that now. Only months after M17x came out, behold, the refreshed one - more powerful CPU, probably the fastest laptop around. Almost as if asking the existing owners to upgrade.
Where as there used to be quite a long wait, before each significant update - but each update were ahead of their time - bringing something unique onto the table, sadly now forced to release updates based on time tables of Intel, Nvidia/Ati. Just look at the length took them to released quad-core M17X, replacing both the M17x and M1730.
I liked how they tread however carefully before, reassuring the customers of their value - not refreshing products so much; now its as as if, they are slamming it right into the customers faces. For all one know, there's probably another refresh with 32nm i7 + USB 3 + MR 5870. There is nothing wrong with that of course; its just I'd expect them to include, not just the expected components, but also something extra onto the table in less frequent fashion, especially consider the premium ppl pay for these machines. -
Technology moves forward, so must Dell. What's the big deal? Are you complaining that they're moving at the same pace as the rest of the industry?
-
lol @dondadah88
my E 1705 been killing me with the NMI: Parity Check/ Memory Parity Error ( bought 2006 )
lately just crash nonstop, the video ram is dying fast. I hope the new line will be up soon. I guess I will try manage for a little while.... -
Don't mind me, I just want something that won't be rendered outdated so soon. Running against the flow I know.

Just my 2 cents...
But instead of refreshing products they need to get their acts together and fix all of the crazy issues with the CURRENT products!
For example, the M17x still has issues with the chipset driver, WiFi driver, Command Center, and OSD that need to be fixed... not to mention the BIOS issues.
Apparently the BIOS is supposed to be fixed between now and Monday... Let's see if they hold up their end of the bargain.

Anyone getting one?
-
-
-
I MUST have an M11x!
-
I agree Dell/AW absolutely needs to get their act together with the stupid issues on the M17X.
-
-
Can someone clarify? Is the current Alienware site displaying the refreshed hardware or old?
-
It is currently displaying the old hardware.
We have no official date on the refreshed version's release date but we all expect it within days or weeks. -
-
Thanks. Sorry, Im looking for a replacement to the SXPS 1645 that's throttling and am thinking the Alienware 15in would be nice. -
-
-
The design is not going to change.
-
-
-
lokks like a return of the skull cape that's awsome
-
USB 3.0 external drives will be available shortly, So I imagine other devices will follow, so i would like to seethe feature on the refreshed AW lines as well.
And definitey hope the new M17 has the RGB LED option, It should of had it already -
cool if it comes out in the next few days before my M15x ships then im going to cancle mine and order that one
-
If it does not come out in the next few days, a lot of people will be sad and feel betrayed.
-
It's offical, entire Alienware lineup gets refresh.
