Just purchased a m17x and about 1 1/2 weeks after ordering they come out with the I7 proc for it. Since i could only afford the standard core 2 duo proc at the time thats the one i chose. I did however opt for the dual 260's in SLI. I guess what I am asking is this. Would it be worth it to return my laptop when it arrives and redesign it with the I7 720QM or should i just be satisfied with the core 2 duo? The Laptop will be used for gaming almost exclusivly. Any opinions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Absolutely!
Do not go nvidia, go with ATi.
Nvidia laptops are having huge audio stuttering issues!

If you can afford the R2 go for it. But here are things you need to concern about:

    - Currently there is only HD 4870 is offered for M17x R2 so it will be more expensive if you want SLI config (compare to GTX 260M SLI).

    - 720QM won't give you any real advantage in gaming comparing to Core 2 Duo.

    - R2 features RBG display which is a huge step forward the CCFL display of R1 (a lot higher color gamut)

Edit: And nVidia has audio stutter too.

Definately go with the R2. You have 21 days from reciept to return for a full refund. The nVidia cards have caused a lot of frustration with constant stuttering and the DPC Latency issue has also been a headache. Let's hope they worked this out in the R2, but it can't be worse right? Plus you will have a more upgradeable machine for when you can afford the nice things you want. Definately go R2 ;)

Go r2 if you can afford it. If you can't then be happy with what you have. Either way you have one of the nicest laptops money can buy.
