Ok well I have two GPU's confirmed =). You can check with this program GPU-Z.

As for right now I cannot install firefox, because it says it isn't a valid win32 program? Not sure how to fix this.

erm.... not sure i'm well qualified to answer this but in the way of teh internet forum i shall put my 2pence forth!

not sure how you check if the two cards are running.... maybe play an intensive game and then see if HWmonitor (link in the M17 sticky) registers a large rise in temp in both cards. i'm sure there is a better and more technical method than this! also i COD4 allowed me to choose Dual cards in the options.... dunno if it allows you to select if not possible.

i can select that option too. it's there for everyone. as for determining if both cards are active, the aforementioned temp test will work just fine.

Ok BIG PROBLEM! When I try to play any sound it comes out very choppy and laggy, and now my mouse is stuttering around, I have no idea what is causing it, and I can't download firefox I am stuck with stupid IE. UGH, for once I wanted to get something that wasnt buggy. Not only this but half my keys DO NOT have backlighting only a couple of them GRRRR.

well i believe there are issues with sound and mouse lag if your system goes to sleep and tehn you awaken it.... my sound messes up until i reboot.

as for the keyboard.... I know that the light is not evenly distributed to each key so some keys are alot more illuminated than others. but some light should be emitted from each key.... if this isnt the case i'd get AW to send a replacement out so your not without your system.

    Congrats on the new rig!

You didn't say but I assume you're running Vista64. Have you tried installing the 64bitversion of Firefox (Minefield)?

I have it on my M17 Vista64 and it works great. Only downside is that Adobe doesn't have a 64bit version of Flash, and a lot of sites use Flash.

Hmmm... that is weird. I can't remember how I got Flash 10 to work on my Vista 64-bit, but that is one of the first things I did.. There is a solution for sure though, I use it. And it was from Macromedia too, not some weird unofficial mod.

    Also for Linux 64bit...

If you find the link let me know. The official solution at their site told me to use their 32bit version of Firefox instead.

Here's what the Adobe site says now:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=6b3af6c9&sliceId=1
    Look at their solution!

EDIT: Yes, Flash does work on a 64bit system, but Firefox minefield is a 64 bit browser so no Flash support.

    Nope,
I got Vista64 and 64bit Firefox (Minefield), but If I want to go to websites that use Flash, which is a lot, then I have to load the 32bit version of Firefox.

Unfortunately, 64bit computing has made huge strides but we're not all the wat there yet.

Flash works fine with a 64bit Os. The problem is using a 64bit Browser.

Rob41 (and others) - if I have mine coming with a 64 bit vista OS, will that mean I'll have to do a work around as well? I've always been an IE guy (yeah, I know, I know...) and I imagine the IE that will be on the machine will be the 64 bit variety? Or is this something different, just with other webbrowsers?

That's cool, you'll have both the 32 bit and the 64 bit I.E. installed. Just choose the one you want to use at any given moment.

I got mine too, lovely machine as well. I went to device manager to check it the system sees the 2GPU and it does. I ran my eve programme, the latest patch you seen advertised so gpu demanding my desktop lowly graphics card ran so slow its impossible to play. Where as on the M17 its purring away nicely and no lag. I ran a few more games like RedAlert 3 seems to work fine. The the real test will be Crysis hope to run it this weekend. More that is useful to you. I looking for avatar to running my m17 EU M17 excludes this same machine, must the cost to Alienware Eire thats stops us from having the same as the US counterparts. Anyone opinions. Am planning to wipe out the M17 and rebuilt the os, its a ritual to prevent....

The best part about receiving a new PC is setting it up just the way you like it.

You should install a decent Firewall and Antivirus as a first. There are many good free ones out there. I believe "Comodo Internet Security" is a great up and coming "Allrounder" which includes AV and FW in one setup. Otherwise the Comodo Firewall alone is one of the best rated. Other great free AV's include "Antivir, Avast and AVG". All free! Dont forget to look into some anti-spyware programs like "Adaware, Super Antispyware", etc...Just google free anti spyware programs and you'll find loads...

You should also look into a "System Maintanance" proggy like "CCleaner". To clean up your system and registry. Iobit has some great free programs too like "Advanced System Care" and "Smart Defragger"...also free!

If you are going to primarily game on this system then you should also look into a proggy called "gamebooster" also by iobit. This closes down all hogging resources enabling you to game with better framerates.

For media stuff I would recommend "Any Audio Converter" and "Any Video Converter" for messing about with Music and Video files.

Just google some of the aforementioned stuff and choose for yourself.

Good Luck and ENJOY your new machine!

Left 4 Dead is awesome! Just played on maxxed out settings, it was great, 1900x1200 res on my 24' HP. so sweet. No lag, but I havent go online yet, even when huge numbers of horde were on me still no lag, I'm really liking this =).

My spec are P8600, 3870 CF, vista home prem, 1440x900 (only because I use an external.

Then, i would have to assume that its lacking in cpu. The system reqs for ETW is 2.4ghz and the p8600 is 2.4ghz. System reqs are roughly an estimate of the minimum you can play at. Maybe if you could OC it, you could run the game at max settings w/o lag, but I really dont know.
