Today I just got my brand new M15X, I spent around 2600.00 on it... To be completley honest, im a bit dissapointed. One thing is the screen feels like it could break very easily... Can somebody please assure me this wont happen?
The screen feels very cheaply made I dont know, for a $2600.00 purchase I would expect different...
2nd problem is Alienware messed up my sons nameplate and wrote Agent#1214 or something like that but I was told they can send me a new one in the mail..
3rd problem is there seems to be very minor usage showing on it... Like very tiny scratches and I called alienware and they said its probably from shipping ... BS!... Has anyone else had these problems?
-
-
congrats on your new beast.
yes the lid is quite flimsy. just remember to hold it in the middle to open it as we dont want another cracked hinge to add to the list.
once again something else that gets past the 200 point check.
ok the nameplate is not a massive problem but how does these sort of things happen. i had the wrong nameplate as well but i didnt give them the chance to send me another one as i cancelled straight away.
if you can put up with the scratches then do but they will try to put you off from returning it as it will need a new chassis if the scratches are quite bad.
and the excuse of it being scratched in transport is as you say BS. -
congrats m8,hope that you wont be disappointed
-
Grats on your m15x!
I personally don't feel like the display is that easy to break. I also did not receive any scratches or anything upon delivery. I'm not sure what that's all about. -
Another question I had is , I removed the old ram and put in 4GB of my own... im not sure if I did this or if its suppose to be this way but theres a small blue wire sticking out like it came out of something...I took a picture of the wire maybe someone here knows im 100% sure i didnt remove it but I wanted to make sure its normal///
i dont know how to post a picture here so I have it ready in an email if someone is willing to help me and took a lake please let me know your email address... thank you again for your help guys i would be lost without you. -
The wire is normal. Everyone has the same.
Regarding the scratches... maybe you were sent a refurbished Chassis. If it's not a big deal for you, don't worry too much.
Regarding the screen... Well, it's one of the weak points of the laptop.
With proper treatment and luck, you won't end up having the hinges of your laptop breaking on you.
You will be fine. -
-
Hey nevermind a friend of mine told me the wire is normal.
I was wondering if its possible to turn off the lights on the keyboard because im thinking if I turn them off I can save some battery power... I tried turning them to black but the color wont change to black...
Anyone know how to scroll through wegpages with the touchpad? I tried moving my finger on the right side but its not doing anything..
Thanks again for the help guys...
If anyone has anymore cool tips let me know take care! -
i never managed to get mine to work but if you try tapping the touchpad on the right that might scroll.
i think you can turn the lights of in the fx command centre. -
My laptop is EXTREMEMLY hot, and its on basic performance... can someone please tell me a good way to keep it cool and maybe even how to check the temperature of it and also please tell me what temperature is dangerous to be in... thank you.
-
look here OB's Guide or HERE
-
Ok... this is a gaming high performance laptop.
It WILL RUN HOT.
Obviously it shouldn't burn you, but here are some tools you should use:
- Rivatuner (will give you your GPU's temperature and clock speeds)
- HWmonitor (will keep a record of all your system's temperatures, current, minimums and maximums)
- RMClock (will give you a graphical representation of your CPU's clock speeds)
- Thermofan (which is included in your list of programs that came with the m15x, under OSD (or whatever) in the Program list.
Google them and download them. Good luck. -
Question, does anyone know if speedfan works on this laptop?
-
To scroll with the touchpad, you move your finger not on the utmost right side but a little into the touchpad.
Oof, my camera makes it look like my lights are leaking. :|
-
...but the above only works if you have the synaptics driver installed.
-
How can you tell if your lights are leaking?
Would it help if I have a fan blowing directly onto the laptop or will that just keep the outside cool?
Can anyone here recommened a really cool mouse that will match the laptop?
Lets say im playing a video game on it, would it help to take out the battery and play with the adapter? Or should i leave the battery in and have the adapter connected... im thinking if i take out the battery it will save battery life, suggestions? -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
The Razer Lachesis is great.
-
-
When it looks exactly like that in real life.
HUH?
Can I ask you another question on the little leather binder they give you it comes with your name on a little card on the front and theres a little sleeve there, the sleeve is empty but im thinking they forgot to put papers in there , am i wrong? -
the whole laptop is made of plastic, that flexes a lot. thats why it feels so cheap
-
Does anyone know what the back right of the laptop is? Its almost so hot to the point of burning me... The left side is nice and cool but the right is very very very hot... What computer part is that and why is it so hot, im not even running any games... its also on basic performance... PLEASE HELP!!!
-
Funny you mention... you should go and mention that to the people freaking out over at Sager's forum.
In any case, it's pretty normal. It's the GPU that is installed underneath.
Best advise, download HWMonitor, Rivatuner and RMClock and start monitoring your laptop's temperatures.
What you are describing is pretty normal, but maybe you might have a real problem. -
having a fan blowing on the outside will make it feel cooler but it wont cool it down inside much. any idea what temps. you have got.
the mouse i use is this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/119593 and its brill.
laptops were built for battery use but ive read on here that its good to let the battery totally run down once in a while. ive also read that it can be run by mains power after the battery is disconnected. dont know if this will prolong the life of it as when you plug the mains in it disconnects the battery anyway.
the leather binder should contain your card with your account number on it and a small booklet with do's and dont's and quick guide.
the little pocket should contain 2 small stickers to use on your touch pad to give you more grip. you should also have all your back up disks and respawn disk if you ordered it.
hope this answers some of your questions for you. -
Thanks for your help guys, are these 3 programs freeware and does anyone know where I can get em?
HWMonitor, Rivatuner and RMClock -
hope ur one of the lucky ones
-
They are freeware...
Google them and you will easily find them. -
cool thanks a million, ill report back the cpus temperature when I get the chance... I really like this laptop its really beautiful... I just hope I wont run into any problems in the future, i mean for $2600.00 this computer should run fine for at least 3 years with no problems... Aside from the scratch and the wrong nameplate I got from Alienware hopefully they will take care of these problems otherwise im gonna make sure i get a full refund... maybe then can send me a mouse or something to reimburse me of these problems.
-
i posted the links in post 11 but here they are again
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=81852
and dont forget this 3Dmark06 http://www.futuremark.com/download/3dmark06/ -
i had to wait 24 days in phase 5 before i got anything and that was just a T shirt so dont hold your breath on getting a free mouse.
-
u think im going to let them repair the problem no chance, i told my song 2 weeks b4 his bday that i would get him the laptop and when he actually opened it up he thought i got him a refurb.. if alienware thinks ill accept a t shirt for the problem i will laugh... but anyways i dont understand all these programs so im just going to leave it alone... is there anything basic i can use to see the computers temperature? thats really all i need... those other progs are just confusing for me.
btw when is it too long to leave the laptop on? my son likes to leave his computer on alot but since its a laptop he prob doesnt know when its not safe anymore so how long is too long to leave the laptop on... when connected to ac adapter that is... can i leave it on overnight? with ac adapter connected or is that bad? -
Im not a rich man, but I was so proud of my son that I decided to purchase the laptop of his dreams for him. I got him the Alienware M15X and spent a whopping $2600.00. After looking at it myself and reading everywhere about it im starting to get worried...
My first problem is something that already I can see with my own eyes, its the screen wobbling, seems like any wrong move and it will just snap. The other problem I have is that it came with a few minor scratches so I dont even know what to think anymore. Also I read that this laptop will break after a few months because of various overheating issues or just stupid little problems that bother me... My question is lets say something breaks which is completley not my fault, either broken hinge or overheating... Can I return the laptop for a full refund , or will Alienwares amazing customer service say you need to pay the restocking fee. Im sorry to be annoying will all my posts and I do apologize but I needed alot of attention on this topic so please let me know what you think. I paid $2600.00 for a computer and its making me really nervous right now. -
Alienware are so overpriced =(
Go with Sager! -
-
There shouldn't be any overheating with the new bios.
If you got the 3 years warranty, don't be worried... even if the hinges ends up cracking, since for this 3 years AW will repair it. It seems that after 3 times trying to fix, AW is more willingly to give a full refund.
My only advise for the time being is: if you already bought it, them for god sake skip this section of the forum and only re-join it once the problems occur. Or you will end up mad with the nightmares story. -
-
Since it seems he already joined the boat, well, i would see where it would bring me.
PS: people should look carefully this thread before boarding the m15x experience: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=254627 -
question 1: how old is your son?
question 2: if you know NOTHING about computers, why in the world did you get an AW? for the lights and the alien head? -
-
ill try an help as much as i can.
as the saying goes, been there done that and got the T shirt (literally).
yes the screen does wobble quite a bit so make sure your son opens it from the middle and not on either corner.
i must admit all the different bits of software were very confusing for me at first.
there is a simple monitor in your program files that is quite straightforward.
im sure its in system files but cant be 100% sure as i no longer have my m15x. can anyone point shaknbakenyc in the right direction.
i think its start > accessories > system tools > (cant remember what its called).
dont forget if you ever get stuck tech support is there 24/7 for you. -

Really Shakn, It's like any new major purchase, When I buy a new car, so many things go through my head, will I scratch it, I hope I don't crash in the first week, etc... Sometimes you just have to let go of the worries, and enjoy what you bought. All the worrying about it breaking isn't going to keep it from breaking, ya know, kinda hit the bridge when you get there, after all the problems with the m15x that we read, they still have only effected a small percent of the buyers, lots of buyers have had no problems. as for the scratches, I would either send it back, or let AW re-compensate you back for it. I just spent 3g on mine, and I will only accept it in pristine condition.
-
This is an expensive lesson learned. Always do some research before making big investments. However, the problems you read about may never surface in the time you use your m15x. So just chill, and read how to AVOID these things from occurring. Then forget about all the things that COULD happen because then you'll become paranoid and notice all these other imperfections.
I just hope your son isn't clumsy or rough. Best of luck.
-
thank you all for the advice guys...
-
my son is 23 , i purchased the alienware because he always wanted one, and the specs seemed very good to me as well.
-
Really though, the only real issue that stands nowadays is the build. It's not perfect, but I don't have a problem with my build. I do very much enjoy my m15x.
-
Same here. I haven't had any problems with it either, though I do admit it does feel flimsy. Regardless of which, I still enjoy my m15x.
-
ahem. yes i believe you will have to pay the restocking fee. out of interest, why did you not read up on this stuff before you purchased the laptop?
PS: i wonder what would happen if i went over to the sager section and started recommending the m15x over the m860tu? -
its not as bad as it sounds really.
people that have not had a high performance computer before are wetting themselves with worry.
ps. it seems to be mainly systems from america that are having problems. -
i fully support whizzo to advertise the m15x in the clevo section
the m15x really doesnt have that many problems anymore. build quality is average. i think people in this forum make it seem like one day when you are holding the laptop on one side, the laptop will just suddenly decide to take a dump and everything inside will come out. -
I am getting a MAC unless Voodoopc launches a 15 soon, AW was a hope, to me it's a lost hope
-

The m86tu was a fine machine, if you don't mind that burning sensation in your wrist, and if looks are of no importance.
Just got my brand new M15X my thoughts...
