Hmmm well I ordered it late and I got it like a week ago so im guessing the drivers are already updated no??? Please let me know how I can check for updates and also if it is safe to play a game like Grid for 3 hours straight... thanks

the drivers are probably the latest official AW ones, which are ridiculously old.
update to 177.92 or .98. -
how do i update them?
-
It also might be the demo, Demo's are not always the best, even from Codemasters. As for playing for more than 3 hours, It can handle it, just let it sit for a short while in the main menu to cool-down before you exit Grid.

How are the 177.98 drivers? Also, in case you're still wondering you basically just download the driver, extract them anywhere, download the modified .inf file, drag and drop it into the folder you extracted the driver and just run the setup file.
-
is the 177.98 drivers official? meaning did nvidia make them..?
also does anyone else light pipe fully light, the space bar that i have doesnt have a full rectangular light and also the light pip around the monitor.. is this normal? -
wow all my topics get moved into this thread i love it!
-
yup, all the drivers come from Nvidia. It's just that some are in the beta stages and Nvidia doesn't officially release a driver until it finds a really stable enough one. But, the betas, themselves aren't too bad. Give them a try.
-
Ok can you please tell me what is the latest driver from Nvidia for the 8800M GTX? What is the absolute best way to install the new drivers as well? Do I have to erase old drivers or something like that? Thanks for the help

Here is how I do it:
-Uninstall the old driver
-reboot
-run "driver sweeper" to get rid of any remaining pieces of the old driver
-run "CCleaner" to clean the registry
-reboot again, into safe mode
-install the drivers from laptopvideo2go.com using the modded .inf file. (you have to have the modded .inf file or else the driver won't install.)
-reboot into normal windows mode.
-done, that's all you need to do! now start gaming or benching to test the driver. If it's bad then you can uninstall them.
The lastest official driver from Nvidia is the forceware 177.98's right now. You can get it off of laptopvideo2go.com or from the Nvidia website. But, you can only get the modded .inf from laptopvideo2go.com. -
I would suggest you give them a try as well.
Here are some of my observations regarding the different drivers:
1. Stock drivers from AW gave higher 3dmark scores. Problem is GPU temps get pretty high with the stock driver. Even temps when idling after gaming take some time to lower.
2. The 2 drivers from laptopvideo2go i tried ( 177.72 & 177.92 ) both gave me lower scores in 3dmark. GPU temps on the other hand, were much lower even when gaming. Temps when idling after gaming went down much faster as well with these drivers. As whizzo stated in another thread, 3dmark scores are just synthetic benchmarks. As long as you're getting good fps in games, that's all that matters.
3. The only problem I've encountered with the new drivers is when playing less graphically intensive games ( ie Diablo 2 ) These kinds of games perform rather poorly with the new drivers, but with the m15x there is an easy solution to this. Simply use Binary GFX and use the integrated graphics card to play less graphics intensive games
Hope that clears things up for you -
im still really confused

-
BTW do I have to uninstall the old drivers? im not good with that kinda stuff i dont want to break my sons computer... if i uninstall it and then restart the computer wont there be no video card??? i need help please...
-
The first time I updated my GPU driver, I was not able to uninstall the old drivers first. This was for 177.72.
Setup went on normally though, and I was still able to update the driver.
But for the second update, 177.92, I did uninstall the old drivers first. I'm also not very familiar with computers, that's why I followed everyone's advice here in these forums to uninstall the old drivers first, just to be sure.
Once you click uninstall, everything will be in low resolution ( ie big icons )
Just follow what dhoang posted and you should be fine
If you're not really sure about these newer drivers, you can download the stock drivers from MyHive and save it just in case -
cha please i beg you read my new post
-
I see dhoang also posted about driver sweeper. I only used CCleaner after uninstalling my old driver.
Try to avoid making multiple threads shaknbakenyc -
what exactly am i doing with ccleaner?
-
Once you open CCleaner, you can click Registry.
Scan, and then fix -
ok i think i installed the drivers now i played GRID demo and im still getting a slowdown here n there really annoying... could it be my processor?
also when i tried to play the crysis demo it automatically puts graphics details on high with slight slowdowns and not Very high ... little dissapointed.. any idea why this is , my dad got me a $2600.00 laptop and it cant run crysis on very high whats wrong??? -
LOL. its not 5k. sorry
-
This is a single 8800m GTX, it is expected, you cant to extreme.
I suggest getting the m17x.
If you think that that the m17x weighs too much, get the OCZ whitebook -
Crysis is just that demanding... playing on high is already extremely good.
Just got my brand new M15X my thoughts...
