Hello! I've just ordered the m15x (phase 4 atm) and I only ordered 1gig of RAM so I'm now in the process of ordering 4GB but I'm not sure what kind of memory I should buy...
Will this one work?
Crucial DDR2 PC5300 4096MB CL5, Kit w/two matched DDR2 PC5300 2048MB CL5

The picture looks like a Desktop RAM and not a SODIMM (Laptop) RAM. I had ordered Crucial 4gb kit from newegg.com
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148201
..it works great with m15x and I am getting 5.1 as Vista rating, lowest is RAM -
here is a link to the right memory on the site you had listed above....

Thanks alot for your quick and great help!
So I guess this one will work?
Corsair Value DDR2 SO-DIMM PC5300 4GB, Kit w/two matched Value Select 2GB CL5
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=347332
This one costs around 20$ more than the other one, but will I have better performance with it? (if it even works ;P)
Kingston DDR2 HyperX SO-DIMM PC5300 4GB, KIT of 2x2GB, CL4-4-4-12, 200pin
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=350893
Thanks again for the help! -
you wont even notice the difference in peformance

-
Ok, so both will work? I'll chose the cheaper one then

I've got the computer, havn't really tested much as my RAM Isn't working correctly. I changed them and turned the computer on but it only showed 2GB ram so I turned it off and checked if something was wrong. (Took them out and then put them in again). Then it didn't turn on, the AlienFX turns on but the screen stays black. So now I've put in the original RAM and it only shows 512MB (computer working) .
Anyone know what's wrong? -
try just one stick of the new stuff and see what it does.
-
Ok, I'll try that. Give me one sec
EDIT: Have no tried both slots with one 2GB at a time. (one slot empty) and there's only a black screen. -
hmmmm
are you on battery or plugged in?
not saying this will work, but you could take out battery, unplug machine, and hold the pwr button dwn for 10 seconds.
leave battery out, plug unit in, and try again with the old stick(s) and see if it works again....
then we can go from there....
i have read others had issues with install like yours, but can not find posts at this time...still looking -
Hmm, it seems like only one of the 2GB sticks are defective. Tried the other one of them alone and the computer works.
-
ok....
so you have one good stick in the unit now?
maybe try one 512 in with it...
if you suspect the memory faulty, get a return authorization asap....
if the one new stick works with the one old stick that should be good until the replacement comes in. thats if the compnay does not require you to return both sticks. if a set, you may have to.
but they should send you a replacement set ahead of the returned ones...maybe. -
oh and gratz on getting yur new system..... YAY!!!!!
-
Thanks alot!!
Ok, I have 2.5GB of RAM now. Seems like it was only one that was defective, I won't be able to return it though as I go to Norway this wednesday and I ordered the RAM via Internet so I'll stick with this for now.
Thanks alot for your help. Now I'll install some games and try this cutie out! -
yay!!!!!
enjoy then.....glad it worked.
lets us know how the games pan out... -
I've played Assassin's Creed for a while now and It's maxed out without lag. I'll install Crysis tomorrow, so we'll see then how it runs

Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
Congratulations, I recommend Bioshock for immersion, if you have surround sound on it will make you jump (",)
Your new baby looks good, are you going to do a review... (",)
Oh, nearly forgot... Did you order a mug?
OB -
Enjoy the notebook. Nice specs. PM me the number of the girl in the picture. Bye.
-
lol groove....
he/she was getting 4G ram for the unit, but it was determined that one stick was faulty.
so he/she is runnning with a new stick and an old one from the original order.
thus 2.5G.... -
I'm thinking about doing a review, but right now I don't have time because I'm going to Norway tomorrow for work.
Regarding the HDD I might get a new one later, but right now I don't have time for the same reason as above. And the girl in my avatar is Alizée, a hot french singer
.
I'm a male btw!
Oh almost forgot, I didn't order a mug, they didn't have the color I wanted so I'm waiting for a new release.
Just ordered
