Will i be miserable with the 240m??
I ordered my m15x a couple days ago.
For starters, I am not an avid gamer. I dont even own a pc game....
I am a hardcore online poker player, and use alot of programs for tracking that use alot of memory. I decided to treat myself to a new laptop that will handle anything i throw at it.
That said, i may decide to try a game or two now that i have this thing...I did upgrade to the 720 quad core, 500g hd, and 4g ram....
How will this thing handle an occasional game??
I guess if i will be miserable i can cancel and reorder, i just thought i wouldnt use the gpu upgrade enough since i am a casual gamer at the most.
Thanks all for any input

That's way too overkill for your needs...
-
Miserable - no, but don't expect to run a current game at all the bells and whistles graphically. That being said you could always unload the 240 and upgrade to a 280 yourself, but I doubt you are that hardcore. The 260m runs games on an M15x quite well, so for very casual gaming a 240 should be fine. It's not an immuteable decision; you CAN change it. BTW, if your order hasn't gone into production you can still cancel and reorder if you really want to.

if your not a gamer then your very very safe with this lol dont sweat it your poker addiction will be well satisfied with this system
-
if your getting this sooner or later you will become a gamer.lol i say get the 260m, i just hate seeing this baby underpowered. i good hand in poker and you will make the difference back.lol
-
Yes cause you never w when you want to fire up the game you want to play and then you will be hating that 240m

Thanks for all the replies,
I am having secont thoughts now, but honestly think i may just upgrade if i get the gaming bug bad. Is it a reasonably easy upgrade?(i am an auto technician with electronics knowledge) so...I assume its just a card swap out?
Is it aprox. as expensive as the upgrade? will it kill my warranty?
Thanks again for any info you guys can help with
Dominic -
why did you upgrade the processor if you werent gonna get the 260 to go with it?
-
Good luck with poker, you won't regret your machine! -
Thanks for the input, I will probably just upgrade the card later if i get more into gaming, for now i will just be happy to have a lappy that will handle whatever i throw at it.
Ill update on how it does if i try some games -
Just so you know, the cards are (a) expensive (like $500-$700) and (b) hard to find usually. So you might be better off upgrading now if you think you want it. Plus, I believe it voids the warranty.
-
^^^ yup better to do it from start, they way everything would be covered by warranty and cheaper in the long run.
-
Ok, final decision= I cancelled my order and upgraded to the 260m.
Thanks for the input regarding the price of these things, The cost and the warranty were the deciding factors.
I guess i will just have to buy some games now..hmmmmm
I used to be a heavy video game junkie back in the day,(like 15 years ago) so, looks like there will be one more old man playing video games
Thanks for all the input, now i wait until 4-8-10...its gonna be a long couple weeks  -
Worse part is the wait. But enjoy. Depending on what games you like what I'd suggest you play, since it's been so long is:
The Orange Box (Half-Life 2 series + Portal + Team Fortress 2)
Bioshock
Bioshock 2
Dark Knight Arkham Asylum
Riddick Dark Athena (but play the Butcher Bay one first, part of the package, much better)
These are all crowd pleasers. And considering I'm an old man too, you can muddle your way through these no problem. Don't be afraid to choose the easiest setting either. There's no shame.
Just ordered my m15x, will i regret not ordering the M260?
