I've got the CM, it was the only one I could find that you could use on your lap. It works, it knocks a few degrees off my CPU temps, but the fan is pretty noisy especially on full speed. I don't think there is much alternative if you want to sit it on your lap. I think it was worth it.

I don't even realize my Zalman NC2000 is on half the time. Low or High, I can't tell. But that LED is BRIGHT thought. Turn it off or cover it if it is in the same room you sleep. You will notice.

while on your lap does it ever lose air flow because your legs are in the way?

and also, perhaps someone could take a photo with the m15x on the coolers, so I can see a size comparison? I know, I know, I'm asking a lot here, but it's worth it. :)

i sit with my legs apart when using the cooler and m15x. i have had no issues with air flow. i make sure i am not blocking the intake from the bottom of the unit. but then again, i am not using the m15x for a great time on my lap either.
as far as pics, i think whizzo had a post regarding the zalman, but not sure he had pics or not with that.

Newegg has a few coolers that have 2-3 fans. One in each upper corner and maybe one dead centre. Has anyone tried one of those ? I believe they would be the best ones for the m15x since the fans are located right under the GPU and CPU.

the fans don't need to be under the CPU to cool it, as i proved in my NC2000 review. as for the GPU, chances are you can't actually cool it :D

Yeah but still, geting fans in the right positions would be better right ?

well i suppose so, that's probably why DIY coolers are, in the end, the best you can do in regards to external cooling solutions (short of gaming underwater ;)).
