Quick question...
I got an M15X. When the laptop is off, is it ok to keep the charging cord plugged in? I heard someone somehwere say, that makes the laptop discharge to 95% and recharge to 100% constantly, or something like that...
Not really sure but anyways, is this bad for the battery? Or does it just charge up the battery back to full, then stops charging... Like would it overcharge my battery, fry it, or do something bad to it?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, im just wondering...

Li-Ion has SmartBattery technology (this is a standard) that knows when to stop charging, to prevent overcharging.
In short, no, it's not bad to leave it plugged in when off. -
I am no expert on this but my understanding is that with any notebook using a Lithium ion battery pack, to extend the battery life( overall life) it is best to occasionally fully discharge the battery and recharge it. This does not mean that keeping the notebook pluggin in all of the time will harm the battery. Just use the notebook in battery mode occasionally until the battery is down to mnimum charge and then recharge it.

Some people say you should remove the battery if you keep your laptop plugged in for long periods of time, but I'm not entirely sure why. -
you should leave the battery out when you unplug it because you want to battery to last as long as possible. let say you are on winter break in college. like me you will have around 1 month and a half off so you wont really take your laptop around that much. thats when you would want to take the battery out while it has a 40% charge level and store somewhere. they battery will deteriorate due to two things. heat and time. by taking out the battery you can extend its life because you will be taking one of the life deteriorating factors out. btw i dont recommend you put it in the fridge. just keep it in a nice cool place. if you take it out everyday like what i will have to do for college then its fine to leave the battery in. if it will just sit on the desk then its smarter to take the battery. if you plan for it stay on the desk for a couple days or more then take the battery out.

in any case, we have a surge protector for the whole house, so... -
I recall reading somewhere that it will automatically recharge at 95%, therefore wasting a charge cycle. So, I decided to leave it out until the semester starts, since I don't usually take it out with me right now.
-
that will not waste a cycle. cycles count every 100%. lets say the battery is at 60% so you charge it back to 100%. that is .4 of a cycle. then lets say the battery then drains to 40% so you decide to charge it back to 100%. that is .6 of a cycle. .4 and .6 will make 1.0. that will then be a complete cycle.

Ah, all right. That makes sense and it was what I was thinking initially but it was on one of the battery care threads in NBR so I thought he might know what he's talking about.

so - nope....
