Hi. I have an a51-m17x and I was using that auroralightsFX application to change the keyboard light settings.

I started to adjust colors and suddenly 3/4 of the keyboard's lights went out. All that lights up is the numpad now...

Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the CC application but it doesnt work.

I load of FusionFX and it doesnt even display the settings to change the keyboard lights anymore.

Anybody know of a fix? I tried the one on the forum about changing the registry but no luck.

    :(

Hi bkral, please check your keyboard BIOS.
You will want to try to reseat the keyboard and reinstall Command Center.

Please feel free to visit us at My Hive for additional online help, updated drivers/BIOS for your system.

    Enjoy your day!

you don't have to reseat the keyboard, i had the same problem when i got my m17x. I put in a new hard drive and when i installed the cc the keyboad was not a lighting selection on alienfx (however alienfx tester showed it still works). Before reseating it use the fxtester to see if the keyboard lights up. You do this by clicking the hard drive icon > program files > alienware > command center > alienwarefxtester. If it blinks and works you don't have to reseat the keyboard, just do a fresh reinstall of the OS and follow alienware's guide for the correct sequence of drivers. you can only do this however, if you have the original OS cd and Resources/drivers cd. when you reach alienfx keyboard patch, you will need to get that from alienware though your account, they should be able to send you the patch and it should make the keyboard a selectable zone when you install cc afterwards and select new theme.

This managed to turn the lights back on the 3/4 that were off.

But now that those are back on... the numpad is super dim. If I open up the effects program... the other 3/4 turn back off and the numpad lights up completely, so i know all the LED's are functional.

I dont have access to the hive account for this laptop...

It was 2nd hand off of craigslist. It was a $3500 system for $500. It was some parent who's child didnt want it. So I got a great deal on it.

    3500 for 500, thats rediculously...good.

Is there something required for the lights to light up (like software) that runs constantly and can be reset prehaps?

okay so you def don't have to reseat the keyboard...did you receive the OS cd and Resource/drivers cd? They have a FAQ on the alienware website if you do not want to completely reinstall everything... but i didn't do it this way, but its basically what i did when it came to installing the keyboard patch. They have all the drivers you need though if you don't have the resource cd.

I dont have all the original DVD's or access to the have support files.

    I'm guessing I need the

"m17x_lighted_keyboard.zip" because I remember at one point having to patch the m17x_RIPLEY_Model.exe. And by reading that I guess I must have installed the one that doesnt have the lighting registry entries. :\

Any other way of getting that file?

yeah, that's exactly what you need....its not in the drivers section for the m17x. you need access to myhive. I got my m17x from another person so i don't have access either... i tried looking for the file (figured i saved it somewhere when i did it myself).... i can't find it. you may want to ask Alienware-Rose if they have access to myhive... or post a new thread if any original m17x owners have myhive access for that patch. sorry i couldn't help much

    Understandable.

Hmmm... Im pretty sure once I get this keyboard to stay on and stay all blue... im going to forget about Command Center and just let it stay Blue in the BIOS.

If I set it... uninstall command. And install Win7, it just stays at the last configuration that was saved to the BIOS, does it?

    So the problem persists...

I have clean formatted and installed win7.

What are the exact steps and install order for Command Center?

And I still need the m17x_lighted_keyboard patch...

Reading some other threads, there seems to be compatibility issues with command center and win7... It may not work right for you as it hasnt been updated for win7 yet.
