Since the new line of Alienware systems have been out for a good amount of time now, and each of the different systems (M11x, M17x, etc...) more than likely share the same exact keyboards in terms of build quality, has anyone noticed the shiny key effect from extended use? It seems to be a common problem with keyboards, more-so with black ones. Does Alienware take precautions with their keyboards to avoid this type of wear, such as higher quality plastic or a protective coating on the keys?
I have the 4-year CC warranty, so I would assume that the keyboard could be replaced if I encountered this wear eventually by bickering enough, but I am still curious if anyone has experienced this at all. Thanks for any input.

Happens on all keyboards. All. There aren't any made of some magical plastic that doesn't wear. It's just the nature of things when you using something that much.
That said, even with an original Dell keyboard that has shiny keys all over the place, I have no complaints. The keys may be shiny, but they grip like anything and the numbers/letters still look new, so the wear isn't affecting that. I have had no functional issues with the keyboard, which is what matters to me.
Usually by the time a keyboard is worn down that much, it has problems or is probably due for replacement. If you can keep using it, do so. If shiny keys bother you, you can certainly use the warranty coverage to request a new one. In fact some people make it a point to do so before their warranty expires. -
It's a polishing problem. Your fingers are polishing the keys.
The solution would be just Dell don't install mate surface keys and install polished from origing keys. -
or simply cut the fingers off

I always thought those were years of accumulated oil tbh.
Sheesh imagine my reaction when some cute girl took out her notebook and I saw those shiny keys. -
Found this thread a long time ago and tested it out with my old Lenovo (where you can remove the entire keyboard). Works pretty well:

My brother has a Toshiba Qosmio that comes equipped with plastic, shiny keys. They suck. It'd look no different than typing on your screen. The gunk shows up so much. I hate it. -
........ its disgusting how much gunk builds up on the casing and keys.
