KillerNic M1 network gaming card is it worth it? Does anyone know if it does actually what they promise - faster fps and better ping ????
-
Not worth it, any integrated gigabit ethernet will do it's job.
that increased fps thing, you can sue them for false marketing. -
ahh ok thanks i read a lot of bad things from google by people that owned those cards. Just wanted to make sure i am not reading bias reports.
-
It's a scam.
-
Yepp its a complete scam. Personally I think a lot of those sites were paid to get those results.
-
omg why are Alienware in on it too? They are charging big bucks to put this in their system of course you have to pay for it.
On second thought it wouldnt surprise me - does anyone have personal expeirence with this network card though? -
gaming hardware is a big market.. and full of fools so its easy to earn money..
its completely useless. its a old Nic with a knife glued on top... literaly.
Lost of companys sell them not just Alienware zzzzZzz hell lots of fools install them in DIY pcs.
best way to get a good ping if your interested.. is via windows tweaks (u can drop wow ping from 300 to 200 via 1 regedit for instance... ) and VPN and tunneling to improve game traffic QOS. -

Well that isnt 100% true, on hardware that can Barely run the game then you will gain a noticeable performance increase since the CPU, GPU etc are struggling a lot to keep the game going, and therefore any slight offload the NIC does actually results in better performance! But in any decent machine then you will notice nothing different!

The Killer NIC is a complete ripoff, it makes basically no difference. I knew someone who had one and it also caused a lot of problems.
-
I will not buy it now thanks for the tips. -
I don't want to tell anyone they're wrong, but some NICs do really help.
Frankly, nothing on the market could fully tax a gigabit LAN... short of buying a RAID array on a few different computers, it's just not going to happen. hell, you can game just as fast on an outdated 10Mbit LAN as well as you can a Gigabit LAN... with the right hardware, there's virtually no difference in ping times and no noticable difference in games.
Gigabit LAN cards are NEVER taxed to their maximum. thus, integrated chips that are "gigabit" rarely can go at gigabit speeds. they're tuned to the same frequencies and are compatable with gigabit connections, however, throw a gigabit of data at them per second, and the NIC will, simply put, overload.
This hardware would prevent such a thing by having a dedicated Interface Controller for the Network. most NICs rely quite heavily on the CPU to do a lot of their work for them, and therefore have a higher CPU load... when the card gets bogged down, it's usually because the CPU is too busy. having a dedicated controller avoids that.
however, from what I'm hearing here... though the controller is a step in the right direction, the drivers leave something to be desired. BSODs aren't usually caused by hardware. it's normally bad drivers...
