I was reading around this and many other sites and couldn't find any that listed known issues with alienware laptops.(just about how horrible they are) So i think we should compile all the known issues with alienware, so start posting seeing how my first alienware laptop is in transit i cant put anything down but those that do have one and have had issues please post the model and the issue and if you know specifics of the problem include those try to keep it clean and easy to pick through and ill try to compile them in a orderly fashion

    Example:
    (Model):Overheats while Under Heavy Loads.
Cause:inadequate space around the CPU, Sub-par Heatsink

No offense baphometa but that wont really say anything. I mean each of us having some problem doesnt really count as a known issue, and we are probably not a really accurate or big representation of alienware laptops out there. I dont know. Im just really into fairly scientific types of info and this wont produce that.
    Again, no offense really!
And I feel that each of us just posting that our machine got hot when running "x" game for 3 hours doesnt really say anything. Cause Ambient temperature and humidity and how the computer is placed on whatever or near whatever its near plays a factor in this. So it doesnt automatically mean its an "alienware issue".

Sorry, I dont mean to rain on your parade. Its a good idea if done right. But I would not hope to see a thread of a bunch of complaints about these computers that just gives a very negative view but not with real proof. You all know how I feel about all the Vista bashing.

And I think you could find a lot of people with any major brand that has all kinds of issues. These really are complicated machines and no 2 people use them the same way.

I agree with your intent. I love consumer reports and taking studies of thousands of people and finding which brands have the highest problem rates and stuff I think is really useful. But most of the problems Ive seen here are pretty one off problems that could be caused by a ton of different factors and I think youd see them in any brand.

I guess I just dont think it will accurately represent anything other than "people have problems with laptops"

Im certainly open to argument here.....just my thoughts.

PS, I hope your laptop works when you get it too!!!

Ok now I feel bad for posting that. I just dont want to get needless Alienware bashing on here that makes it seem like this company makes horrible computers. After I see your response, Ill delete my post for the sake of cleanliness....

ha gotta say what you gotta say.

but yeah you see alot of people posting problems they have and starts playing with your own mind but remember...

theres probly 100's and 100's of people who having no problems with there labtop but don't post. just like me :D ive had 2months+ not 1 single crash or heating issue or problem. so remember its always the bad news not the good news just like in real life news. rarely something *good*

i was nervous yeah to at first but everything is great now .
but ya hope everything goes good with your m9750.

oh well just a idea i surf the web alot and was planning on useing other sources for this besides this site my main goal was having somewhere that people could come to see if there problem was isolated or something that happens to all computers of that model to more so weed out the good from the bad as so people who are thinking of purchasing a computer could buy a good one not a lemon like i think the 5500 or whatever (il have to search) were all notorious for overheating issues because of a temp sensor being crap so thus anyone wanting a 5500 would know what to expect if no one wants this thread then that is fine by me no hard feeling let me know that way i dont waste my time :D

and dont get me wrong as this wasnt intended to bash alienware at all but more of a good souce of information

In general, people who have problems with their computers go to forums to ***** and complain. Say there are 100 Alienware owners and 5 of them have problems, the rest are completely happy, that 5 will be much more vocal than the 95 who are completely happy. It's just the nature of tech forums. I mean read the forums for ANY company out there, and you will start to think that company makes horrible products.

I like the intent of the thread as I am in the same boat as you, waiting for my computer. I'd like to know what known kinks are out there already (such as SLI not working with dual monitors? Anyone know more about this?), so hopefully this thread will turn into that :)

Frankly, while I had some annoying problems with my Alienware m7700, I loved it 'til the day it died (and died it did!). I'd be an m9750 owner right now, but I didn't want to wait almost 1.5 to 2 months to get a system... =/

So I defected to Toshiba. For now. I'll probably sell the Tosh and get an Alienware again once quad-core and 8800 SLIs become the norm. I'd say I'd wait until the Geforce 9XXX series geos to laptops, but considering how long the DX10 parts took, that'll be sometime in the year 2029.

But by then, Skynet will have taken over... so it'll be a moot point anyway. :p

I'm John Connors cousin, you can join my resistance cell sure.

    Not all is lost.

Maybe we can use our alienwares to hack into skynet.

    i agree with Sequoia225,

This is a good idea if done in the right way but having worked in retail for 6 years I can safely say that even if you have a 99.5% customer satisfaction rate, all you will ever hear about is the 0.5% who kick up a fuss.

It's true that a satisfied customer will tell his friends and a dis-satisfied customer will tell the world.

How about changing it to a "Problem and Solution" page? That way it's not people whining and bad mouthing AW, it's people sharing their solutions in a single, condensed thread.

I know that a lot of probs will be one-off's but does sound like it would be helpful for the people that do have the same problems.

Maybe, but it would be hard to find the problem you have unless the front page has links throughout the thread.

Here's my issue with my newly received M9750. My disc drive doesn't eject except when using software (ie. right clicking the icon in my computer then clicking eject, and 5-8 seconds of wait time). It's a minor issue, one that I hope I can fix with a realignment tomorrow when I get a jeweler's screwdriver to remove and re-install the thing) but still. How in the hell did that get through the 200-point inspection? I cry foul on Alienware for this. I doubt its shippings fault.

maybe the button on the drive came loose from it's electrical contact?

I'd like to say that the majority of the problems are on the 5550 5750 5790 platform due to the chassis type/poor thermal design. My m5750 thermal problems have no end. I tried CnC 3 which is a departure from WoW for me and at 1920x1200 res and everything else set to default, i found the temps to be about the same in speedfan...(~78-80) I'd buy the m9750 if I had the motivation to, but I'm none too happy with my laptop or with the company at the moment.

No, when you push the button, it blinks and you hear the release, the drive just doesn't come out enough for you to finish opening it or anything. I honestly think its hanging on the chassis, or the release just isn't completely letting go. In fact, Im going to buy some tools now and see if I can realign it
