    Hi

I was wandering why L4D let's my M17 suffer ... "It's only the source engin" said one of my friends and now a am a bit dissabpointed ...

I am playing on Windows 7 and the W7 beta driver which is quite good for even Crysis.

    Now my questions:

On what "quality options" are you plaing L4D?
    "or"
What would you suggest me to play on when I want to go native ress (1440x900)?

    And:
Could the W7 beta driver which I think is a "modded" 8.12 make "the problem" of less performance?
During my "Dirver Comparison" I noticed, that chaning the video driver makes you reinstall w7. So don't want to "just try" the 9.2 :)

    THX 4 your help!

    Greetings
    Julian

I play L4D at full resolution and graphics (fps is around 45-60 in worst case scenarios) but i only use one core cause for some reason the game crashes when using both cpu cores :(

    Hm...

    THX

you have a better cpu but when you only use on core ... the "cpu power" should be equal ... or may be I have the same "problem" but I don't realize it^^

You don't say what you turned on, so I guess you maxed it out?

    Greetings
    Julian

edit: what was the console command to show fps?

I use fraps to see the fps in game. As for the settings its basically all of them on max apart from AA which you can try changing from x8 to xx2 to get better fps :)

Btw, catalyst 9.3 are said to be released in 2 days (18th) and they said they support win7 too. So you might as well give them a try too when they are out ;)

I play L4D usually at max settings, and I get about 60 FPS.

    OK, I'll try :)

Year! Just heared about it and sure, on wednesday, I'll give them a shot (without clean installation because this is where the troubles come from  )

I'll just search for the console command and then try it now with x2 ;)

See our review of the OCZ Whitebook/M17 here:
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4824
I was able to run L4D at 1920x1200 with everything maxed with dual HD 3870s and a QX9300 2.53GHz. The game isn't particularly demanding; you should be able to run it at maximum settings with any M17 config.

    So thx guys!

    I just tryed it with "cl_showfps 1"

I get good fps (during fightign) with AA x2 and AFx2 and multicore suppor disabled! As soon as I enable it I get less than 20 fps ...

So I guess this problem only occures on the T9400 and T9600 or only on the non quads? But ... hm ... this doesn't make sence ...

    THX YOU HELPED ME

I hope there will be some day a solution to this "multicore problem" ... and, because CooL has a quite same problem I know it isn't related to W7 ... hm.

    Greetings
    Julian

Edit: on which OS are you running L4D? (and 32 or 64bit?)

Running it on a 32bit Vista. Its quite a common issue though, took me a while to isolate it and after some searching in the google i found out that many others had the same issue with the game. Probably a bad multi cpu coding from their part.

what are you all for real. i got 80-120(average was 90) fps on l4d @1920*1200. everything maxed out completey.

without the multi core i average 60fps. with the t9400. my notebook is processerless so i cant run a benchmark on it now. but try it again.

So not everybody with T9400 has this "multicoreproblem" ...

I mean even my and CooL's problem isn't excactly the same (he can't even paly with multicore).

First I thought it is related to the grafics driver but does this make sence? Can the grapics driver effect the "multicore way" of a game (I don't think a grafic driver can effect something about the cpu^^)

But just for my happyness ... what driverversion are you (CooL) using.

    Greetings
    Julian

Using E's 8.12 and waiting for the 9.3 to come out :(

But yea using the multicore option causes the game to crash every 10-15mins for me.

Hm ... may be ... it's the 8.12 ... ok it would be weard ... but the W7 beta driver is a modded 8.12?
Or does sb else without the 8.12 has this problem?

If I am right and this problem is (on the M17) related to the 8.12 driver and he has a Nvidia card ... he uses both cores :)

I can't wait to get the 9.3 :) Hopefully it will install without makting trouble, I don't want to switch back to Vista ... but MOM! I am dual booting with vista and I think a have the AW driver on it so I'll give it a try there.

I tested it on Vista 64bit and AW graphics driver and you wouldn't belive it!

I can play on both cores (multicore enabled) and get around 100 fps!

On W7 64bit and W7 beta driver (8.12) I had to disable multicor support (got with around 30 fps) but than I got around 60fps.

So I would suggest when you have this issu try to chance the graphics driver :)

    Have you enabled Multicore?

On Vista (dual boot remember^^) with the AW driver I get everything maxed out around 100, but with 8.12 or 9.3 I on Windows 7 I have to disable Multicore and get aorund 50-60
