    Called AW on friday, got this talkative technician:

    ATI HD3870 (master or slave) => 159 € shipped=> for the m17

    NV 9800M GT => 283 € shipped => m17x

    NV 9800M GTS => unavailable (or not any more)

    NV 8800M GTX (master) => 460 € shipped => m17x

    NV 8700M GT => 190 € shipped => m9750

    NV Quadro FX 3600M => m17x => 563 € shipped

    Laptop m15x => can receive 8600m GT, 8700m GT (Master or Slave), 8800M GTS, 8800m GTX

    According to him, AW can sell and send you any GPU or spare part IF you still have a valid warranty and if they have the GPU / part in stock and available for sale (as opposed to reserved for repairs). He says it works like that, even if the GPU you would like to buy is not compatible with the laptop you own / bought.

    You can either have them ship the part to you and you make the change, or send the laptop back for them to do it if you don't feel comfortable with handling the installation.

    I just asked stocks on 9800M GT and HD3870... to be ready to buy some...

    I don't believe him and AW selling spare parts like that, but wait and see... maybe i can still be surprised with AW...

    Doesn't Dell send a technician to your house to do the upgrade for you anymore? Is that still an option?

    In Europe it seems DELL hasn't taken over AW that bad yet... at any rate, he didn't mention that option.

    ... or it is still a big great mess...

    It would cost them too much....

    Yes... you won't like it.

    They don't have them anymore, nor the 4870.

    Even worst: when they get a laptop (m17) with a broken 4850, the only solution they have is to send it back with a 3870 or 3850 + extra money (refund) since there are no more 48xx cards.

    this is serious non-sense.

    They're supposed to have 4870s: one of the options on m17x is dual 4870s.
    Why is this company in upgrade denial mode all the time

    I would have to give them call to see if they have sorted out the AW/dell fusion.

    I bet it is still a big mess over there...

    Anyone have called AW europe recently to check on the GPU update plans?

    Hey Tom. Thanks for listing the prices. I just want to add that you are able to buy the 3870 as an upgrade to the m15x too.

    Do they ask you to send your laptop to them for the GPU exchange? is this in the us or UK?

    cause if they don't, i'll ask anybody who owns a m15x to buy one for me!
