OK. How long has it been since you did a clean format of the operating system and installed fresh and up-to-date drivers for everything? Doing this will work miracles for an older system.

If it locks around the 15min mark consistently then I would look into a possible overheat issue. I would power it on with the cover off so you can verify that all the fans are spinning like they should. Just be careful ad make sure that nothing gets into the blades.

Also, check the Event Viewer for "red errors" and post the output. But I too, think this is more likely to be overheating...

Sounds like a servere case of dust clog, take it apparent and give it a clean, use compressed air (recommended) and keep the fan in place (dont let it spin.) dont need to mess it up now.

If the fan is functioning, there is a chance its just really stumped with dust (i mean alot of dust) i dont think the fan is busted, and heatsinks, dont really break.... (i think.)

Hmm, well if you've inspected it and its definately clean and still isn't spinning, then it may need replacing indeed my friend, unless your machine needs to hit a certain temperature for it to start spinning.

can your laptop stay on long enough to runa program called hwmonitor?

Hehe, i just forgot completely, sometimes there are temperature thresholds on laptops for fans to start spinning!

just keep an eye on your temps etc, if anythings outa the ordinary, prehaps a new thermal paste job! :).

    Merry Christmas,
    Cata
