On the AlienFX tray icon there is a "Dim Lighting Zones" option. I never use it, personally.

I guess it depends on what version of command center you have. My brand new MX14 does not have this option, I searched everywhere in the FX center, not even under advanced.

ibill, I'm not fully familiar with the M14x but the option should be accessible by right clicking the tray icon (the alien head near the clock on the task bar).

sorry to clarify, but is 'dim' in the alienfx usually meant 'dark' or shut off the lighting? i think you can adjust the colors by fx options, but not necessarily dimming the light itself?

I tried Katalins suggestion. When I right click the alienware head, dimming the lights is not an option. Only FN Print + screen shuts the lights off. I read a review somewhere that the lights can't be dimmed on the M14x. Maybe it's different with other models.

Actually "Dark" means shutting off all the lighting except power & the media bar.Our M17xR3 have both options "Go Dark" & "Dim lighting zones".

It is not inside the FX centre (Command Centre), it is like what BlakeE450 said, you can find that icon in the Notification Area/Show Hidden Icon (the one usually hide your tray icon), there you'll fine an icon of what appear to be a tiny Alien Head, Right click it, then click on " Dim Lighting Zones" then your FX keyboard will dim down, you can also have it dim down when on battery, that's the option I usually use when I'm on battery and need some fancy light on to show off my friend :p.

Just read your second post, Now I'm not sure which version of CC your have but mine I got from Dell Driver & Download website and that CC clearly have that light dimming option, so you might want to reinstall the CC found from that link I provide above. I can proof that if you want to see the dimming effect on the M14x. Just let me know, and I'll take a picture for you.

Thanks again. You are correct. I was right clicking on the alienware head in the system tray when you open FX. When I did it on the head on hidden system icons it is there to dim on battery or always. Cool

    Just because pictures are cool

"Dim lighting zones in battery mode only" becomes clickable if I remove check beside dim lighting zones. Very nice feature =)
