I've been trying for quite sometime to instal linux on my computers but as of yet all of my trials have failed miserabely

i had some time befor getting my m17 to be able to install ubuntu without whiping my windows install

but when i try so on my m17 the 9.10 version of ubuntu just don't boot grub don't seem to find linux kernel

with 8.04 it install and work fine but when i install updates it just get messed up and when i boot again it ethier boot in console mode or without displaying anything at all

anyone know what distro of linux can work on the m17 and how to install it without whiping my win7 install (i have like 6 partitions on 2 HDD) and i don't wan my main boot loader to be gub idealy

I only tested it once with 8.04 and with the updates i could just boot fine.

(installed it on an USB stick...no idea if that matters....)

well, what do you want to use Linux for? Judging (sorry!) from your post, you are not an advanced user. Maybe it would be enough for you to install Linux on a pen drive and boot it from there?

How can you judge from his post that he is no advanced user?

It is well known that several ubuntu versions do NOT work with ati radeon graphics cards especially 2 in crossfire so the issue he has is known and every M17 user probably has it.

who cares if he's not advance user.... we all keep learning, there's no one in this world knows everything.

back to topic, I havent tried installing on my M17 b4, I guess I would try to install in on pendrive too since I dont want to mess up my data on my HDD.
