Mandrake
I am hoping you can give me a quick rundown of the differences between the Asus you had up on YouTube and the Alienware M17x R3.
I was looking at buying one or the other, Asus has gotten glowing references lately, I was sure that Alienware was the primo laptop maker, but I am learning that I didnt even know as much as I believed. ( Seriously reading these forums, its literally crawling with people who know so much it just astounds me and makes me feel like a huge noob )
I saw that you have had both and I am curious as to your perspective. What things about the Asus did you like, did it have any heat issues? The fast boot thing looks kick butt. How did the keyboard feel it looks rubbery compared to the Alienware? Could you compare the backlighting on the Asus versus the Alienware, whats your personal opinion?
I am not looking to make a thread to slam one or the other, I am excited about both machines and I am curious to hear from someone who has apparently owned both of them as to why you went with Alienware, and if you like it better. What things does Asus do well and what things does Alienware do well that you like? Which system seems cooler? Asus has those big vent fans on the back is supposed to be quiet. Is the Alienware as quiet? Does it stay cool as well?
If you could take the two machines and pick three things from each to merge to make a hybrid of the two, what features would you pick and what three things from each do the machines have you would take away or possibly change?
I really enjoy your youtube videos and thank you for putting them up and I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and perhaps answer.
I was looking at the Sager/Clevo books as well, but I just cant get into them or get excited for them. So I boiled my choices between;
1. Alienware M17x R3 with 3d Bundle
2. Asus G73
3. Alienware M17x R2 Dual GPU set up
I know the new Alienware is running a Sandy Bridge and should be techinally better, but I am curious as your opinion of comparing the the machines you have had.

Alienware: Cooling, Build quality and Support
Acer: Price.....2 yr stock warranty and 1 yr accidental
bottom line: You will save money with Asus but you will not have near the cooling capabilities of Alienware, Build quality in parts using Aluminum or Magnesium. Along with that if you ever have to use service aspect all repairs are NEXT DAY IN HOME support versus sending it into ASUS for 3 weeks to a month to get a repair that hopefully works.
i guess i am getting off topic and might be slightly biased to Alienware so i will stop now.
thanks -
