I bought a Win 8 license and I would like to install it with the Alienware Windows 8 CD. Can I find an ISO of the CD somewhere?

    Thanks.

I think Joce21 would like the Alienware Windows 8 DVD which pre-installs all the Alienware stuff. Not sure if your link will help with that.

If you bought it through Dell send me a PM with the order number and I'll send you a DVD with Windows 8.

I bought Windows 7 from Dell when I purchased my M18x R2. Then when Windows 8 cames out, I bought the Upgrade Key and I installed Windows 8 from a ISO. But like GIzmo said, I would like to get Alienware stuff from the Alienware Windows 8 ISO like the Alien head when Windows 8 is loading at startup. Is there a way I can install Windows 8 from the Dell Alienware Windows 8 ISO?

    Thanks in advance!

I don't think so. I also tried to buy it that way from Alienware and it's not for sale except with a new system from what I was previously told. In addition to asking about it today, I spoke to someone in sales a couple of months ago, placed the order and received another Windows 7 Ultimate DVD because "that's what my system came with." When I followed up on that error, I was told that they cannot sell Alienware's OEM Windows 8 to me. There may be some sort of a licensing restriction with Microsoft, and they have to honor it if that is the case.

You might be able to find it in an AiO ISO however I won't say anymore. I believe that if you own a licensed copy and key, then you may also download pirated ISOs. Not sure though.

Sorry but there is certainly no way to help on this issue since we can't sell those, maybe grabbing someone else's disc to do the reinstallation?

What is humorous is how they (Micro$oft) are going to unprecedented extremes to guard an OS that is one of their least desirable versions of Windows, second only to WinME, LOL.

Once you get used to windows 8 its actually very nice. Faster than windows 7 in all regards at least in my experience.

I have to agree with Mr. Fox here, Win 8 has to be one of the most undesirable version of windows made to date. That being said and to stay on topic, making and downloading ISO's of Windows boot media is not illegal as long as there has not been any cracks, or other ,methods used to circumvent copy protection, or activation. As far as the OEM media goes, I don't think that copying that would be legal unless you have the OEM key to use with the media.

So the question that should be asked, I guess is, if a end user were to buy a legitimate Win 8 OEM copy could that key be used with another OEM's install media? Obviously an upgrade key won't work, but I am curious about an OEM key.

Sorry to 'mini-hijack' the thread. I have a question that is Windows 8 related, but not in the context of the original post.

My question, to those who may know the answer hopefully, is this:

Having paid for a Windows 8 Pro upgrade (when it was on offer for £14.99) I created an iso to re-install from USB. That's fine. What I'd be interested to hear if that same USB (or Product Key that was emailed to me upon purchase of the upgrade) will actually work on another machine?

The reason for asking is that if I DO end up with a replacement machine, I'd like the option to 're-install' the Windows 8 Pro I paid for to the replacement machine. If it will only work on my current machine (being tied to it) then I've wasted the fee I paid for the upgrade.....

Just me being a 'tight-wad' and not wanting to go out and buy ANOTHER Windows 8 product having paid for one already....

    Thoughts guys??

If I understand this thread right, there isn't any way that I could buy/get the M18x Alienware Windows 8 ISO? Because of course I will like to install the Alienware Windows 8 on mine.

Yup. I think the general consensus is that you can only get that .iso if you bought a machine with Win 8 on it from Dell. Even then, you would have to call up to get one.....at least that's how I understand it....

well.. I think it should be an option for people for free since are computer are able to handle windows 8.. or at a discount... not offering it at all is just going to make people pirate it all the more..

Microsoft does not make Windows 8 ISO downloads available. This is a major problem and a source of turmoil for those that acquire Windows 8 pre-installed on a new system. It's better to order a system with Windows 7 and buy your own Windows 8 from Microsoft, then you have the best of both options available and can easily set up a dual-boot system. As far as I know, the only way to get an ISO is to purchase Windows 8 from Microsoft and use the link they provide to download it and convert it to ISO using the proprietary downloading tool Microsoft provides. When I purchased Windows 8 Pro from Microsoft for my systems, I also ordered one DVD set so I would have that option as well as an ISO for USB installation or DVD burning.

Dell should sell a copy of this to any one with a newer alienware laptop.. what would it hurt... worst case scenario is that you revert back to windows 7..
but not offering it is just a bummer.. I for one wanted to play with windows 8 and wanted the look and feel alienware has on windows..

this is going to be a little frustrating for me since I want the new Alienware 18 with the mSATA boot but the configuration claims it won't work with Windows 8 (which is utterly ludicrous)

hopefully that's something the phone sales can override

It may have something to do with how Micro$lop allows OEMs to sell Windows 8. Because most OEMs care (for reasons that are a mystery) about their systems being "Windows 8 Certified" it limits what they can configure. If the setup does not work correctly with Secure Poot then it won't qualify, so from the perspective of the OEM it is not ludicrous... just part of the program. Yes, ludicrous considering that Windows 8 works perfectly (I think better) in a non-certifiable setup, but they cannot/will not sell it like that.

You're better off getting a new system with Windows 7 (which should include "old school" DVD media) and purchasing Windows 8 directly from Micro$lop so you can have the retail installation media (DVD and ISO) and install it yourself with Secure Poot disabled. Even without the media, you can use your Windows 7 Product Key and do a clean install from ISO. Windows 7 ISO downloads are available, unlike Windows 8. However, it is too difficult to obtain installation media on a OEM factory Windows 8 distribution. You then have some portability as well. If you decide to sell the system later on, reinstall Windows 7 and use your Windows 8 on another machine.

I have factory installed Win8 on my M18, and to be honest I really cannot say I've noticed much Alienware presence. Sure there is the Alienhead desktop picture on the old desktop (not the tiles one) and there is the Alienware logo under computer propterties ... beyond that ... if there is something else Alienware installed I missed it entirely.

No sounds, no special icons or anything such. The bonus I guess was all the drivers came installed.

    I promoted this at IdeaStorm.

Sounds like a great idea to me. It would be nice to have this option available. It may depend on whether Microsoft's licensing arrangment with Dell allows them to do this. There may be some restrictions Microsoft has imposed on what they allow Dell/Alienware and other OEMs to do with a Microsoft OS that is not factory preinstalled on a new system.
