Isn't the Go6800 an MXM III card though?

normally it would be but the info that i have is that the 5700 is mxm2... it is mostly a connector and all so they could in theory have made an mxm2 one.
if for some reason i have been misinformed about it (always possible) and that it is actually mxm3 then assuming AW offers the upgrade, you could get a 7 series either the vanilla 7800 or the gtx depending on what they offer in the future.
remember though that upgrades are never assured. even with mxm its still up to each manufacturer to decide to have a card made that will fit the physical and thermal solutions of their specific machine. you wont be able to just go out to the local shop and buy an mxm card a pop it in... -

MXM/AXIOM technologies are more of a tool for the manufacturers to easily upgrade their notebook's graphics.
We don't have a really 'user-friendly' upgradeable technology yet. It is easy to install an MXM module, and same with an AXIOM, but very difficult to purchase/find. -
Well thanks for the help but i think I am going with the m5700. I just have to wait until August now. I am currently working on a very long term contract, which at the end, August, I get a heafty bonus. Maybe I'll get lucky and they will come out with some different colors eh? Well this forum will be my way to cope for 5 months, and I have not a lot of better things to do. Im away from home until then to so.

Yeah, 5 months? I wouldn't do that - it's a waste of time. They will probably have a new lineup by then, anything you price + spec out now will probably not be avaliable either.

I haven't posted before, but I wanted to post my two cents for those interested in buying an Alienware Computer. This issue needs to be brought to the attention of future buyers of Alienware Computers.
My computer crashed and I eventually was told I would have to ship my computer back to Alienware to be fixed (under warranty still). I have a Area 51m 7700 laptop computer. Alienware's company policy regarding such returns are as follows: 1) repairs can take as long as 17 business days (that's three weeks folks), 2) you hard drive is wiped (no way around that). Long story short, I sent it in with a 3.6 cpu. It comes back with a 3.0 cpu. Now they tell me they are willing to fix it, but i'll have to put the new cpu on my credit card before they will send it out. Hmm their mistake, my cost, how does that add up? -
USAFdude02 NBR Reviewer & Deity NBR Reviewer
Wow...that is bad. Well your specs should be on the sheet when you got your comp. Can you show them that and get your CPU.
That really sucks. Well I guess people still like the boutique gaming rigs. I was thinking about AW too, but that is a little out of my price range. -
B)they don't always erase hds sometimes you get back an oopsie with an extra game"testing" or so I was told
C)be happy they just downgraded it and its not actually broken moreso (some people get stuck in a loop of having something fixed but something else coming in broken)
D) DO NOT EVER REPLACE YOUR CPU OVER THE PHONE (what it seems there trying to do), they are not liable for any damages! further if you do break something they can void your warranty hence you're paying that deposit so they're not obligated to talk to you... On the other hand get someone to say on record (your record aka tape, their "notes" are periodically wiped) that they are responsible for any possible mishaps than its ok
E)if you'd like to post a horror story about AW we agreed to contain those in the "techsupportless" thread aka hall of shame so that we don't have to repeat them over and over in each thread
See ya there -
I was just getting an idea of what AW had to offer. How drasticaly could the specs change in 5 months? i cant exactly order it know because of where I am and the way I reveive mail. Alienware wouldn't cover it if it was.."damaged" be our carrier
-
specs can be totally different in 5 months. they may even have a new lineup by then with core duos.
-
btw if thats what AW told you than its BS, only your carrier could cover damages hence insurance be it USPS or fedex or ups even military seems to have somekind of protection -
No cover for military over seas unfortunatly. yeah, there will be a bigger better deal out by then I guess. I didn't think to much about that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention yall.
-
what country are you in right now?
-
I wouldnt recommend alienware or widow pc's to anyone. They are overpriced and overrated. There are plenty of pcs out there where u dont have to think about spending $3000.
Stick with an HP, Gateway, Dell, or Toshiba notebook. They work fine I have one.
CPU-2.23 Ghz
RAM-512 mb
Video card-6600, 256 mb
Hardrive-60 GIG -
Well, as I have gotten angry about before, it does NOT cost 3grand. As a matter of fact, my config didn't even break 2 grand. As far as the overheating. The only problems I have heard is with the m7700. I am using a m5500 right now, it's my buddies. He has had it for about a year and a half. Not one crap out. And considering the dust storms and the extream heat where I am, it's doing extreamly well.
-
Sorry AWVet, I didn't see your post. I am in the middle east, but not in Iraq, sorry thats all I can say. Gota go though, internet is going off in a few minutes. I'll tty when its back on.
-
i dunno if youre in the military but you ought to read that one story posted by a soldier in iraq that got the "AW treatement" overseas.. really sad story there
-
I'll have to look into that, was it on these forums?
-
here i googled it for you http://www.fortsmithgamers.com/alienwaretestimonials.htm
....certainly not a pleasant read -
Metamorphical Good computer user
Messing with a soldier in Iraq. -.-; I should report refer AW to the UN.
-
..well... look at the bright side.. there soldiers... they gotta come home some time... i think they can do a much better job than the UN in person
-
Hey, what is the difference between a dedicated video card and just a normal one. I heard that Vista needed a dedicated video card with 64mb to run, what is that? If Vista is any good I was considering picking it up after it had been out for a while.
-
I just listened to your recording. Wow. Man 1st they need to get someone who can speak english in there. Talk about a crappy support tech. Im guessing you where in a car and it was raining. I havent heard the pitter patter of rain in a looooooong time.

Check out my graphics card guide:

It took you two seconds to type all that, and for me! darn you're good. Hehe, thanks for the help, great guide. So I guess I'll be good if I ever have the urge to go with Vista.
-
i think you are out to lunch there man, a top end dell can break the $3000 mark easy, its the only company you listed that makes a true gaming laptop, their xps and yes i have one. as for the toshiba, gateway, and Hp sorry they are alot of things but they are not gaming machines. alienware is a custom built gaming machine to your specifications. there is no prebuilt systems.
your smear of the entire brand based on no actual proof of reason for it is one sided and you should realize it doesnt make sense to blast all alienware for it. -
i think he meant to say sager, vodoo and all other clevo and non clevo flavors... AWs not the only name in the market but their tech support is widely know for their kind voice and sheer lack of interest in solving the bigger problems
*dont mean to be putting words in your mouth btw -
I did look at the dell duel core e1705. That thing is pretty tirck for the money. and I really like the duel core. ( I do a lot of multi tasking) 1 question though. How does it stack up to other proccessors in gamming?
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
The Core Duo will be on par with a Pentium M or a little better in gaming, I've seen a few sets of benchmarks that don't demonstrate much of a difference in single-threaded games.
I'd go for a dual-core if you can, multi-threaded games offer a huge performance boost. -
Multi threaded games you say? What exactly is that?
-
USAFdude02 NBR Reviewer & Deity NBR Reviewer
Like Quake 4 has a patch for 64-bit/HT/Multi-core to take advantage of it. It will give you better game details. Like Physics engine and stuff like that. This way it can take advantage of the processors.
-
So basicaly the normal programs are stupid and will wait in line, while the new duel core enabled will do multiple apps in parallel for a program. Cool. hopfuly there will be some more duel core enabled programs / games in the future.
Looking to buy an Alienware.
