So i was originally looking to get a M15x, but although I have read that a lot of people have had them and they have been great, I don’t really think i want to risk spending all that money on a "lemon".

That being said, I then looked into the M17. I have pretty much decided I am going to order one, the only thing holding me back is I want to wait till Monday to see what the all powerful is like.

Honestly, I don’t think I will be getting one, but there is no point in rushing it, I might as well wait the few days and see.

What I wanted help with is the CPU in my M17.

In my price range, I am looking at either the T9550 2.66GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) or the Q9000 2.00GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB).

What I want to know is which would be better for me. I am looking to use the system to do the basics (internet, music, films etc.) and I will also be using it for medium level gaming when I move away.

I have been research and have found mixed feeling on weather it is worth getting the quad. I know not a lot of things actually use the full 4 cores at the moment, but I’m wondering how soon that is going to start changing, and whether is it worth buy in, and it will start to come out into its own in the next year or so?

That is pretty much all I am undecided on at the moment, any help would be much appreciated.

    Regards

    J

I personally always go with speed over more cores unless I have a specific reason for running more cores (like VMs)

definitely the t9550. the q9000 is too slow to push non-quadcore-optimized games.

I was leaning more towards a faster dual core myself. I figure it will allways be possible to upgrade to a quad core later when i have time/money to do it.

    Thank you :)

Oh, also, if that is the case, how much performace difference will i notice between the T9550 and the T9600?

For an extar £160 there is only a 1.4MHz difference, doesn't really seem worth it to me.

I just had to make this decision when I ordered mine a couple days ago. I went T9550. I expect it will be quite a bit faster than a Q9000 at 2.0. As for the T9550 vs T9600, you probably won't notice a difference except for the lost money. The extra 140 Mhz for the price is absolutely not worth it.
