I am confused on what is going on here, everyday I check my harddrive space, I have a 500 GB harddrive. 2 Days ago it was at 378 gb's yesterday it was at 375 and today its at 372. Whats going on here? Is it the system restore or some other file eating away at my memory? I am not downloading anything as big as 3 gigs everyday. I do not believe it is a virus, and the only program I have running in the background is AVG Anti-Virus.

it could be vista creating system restore points. it could be things like cookies/savegames/system-files. it could be some sort of error in the "measuring" process. i'd wait and see if it continues or not. although if you keep losing 3Gb a day, that's really gonna suck in about 128 days :D

Thanks for the info Whizzo and Stone, I was hoping that the system restore points were the case, I'm just glad someone isn't stealing my gigabytes! Hopefully the next time I restart the computer I won't be losing a gigabyte or two of information each time!

Are you using Windows Live Search or Google Search ? I have seen Windows Live Search taking 1gig every day on my machine if I have much of emails or files creation everyday. It keeps on indexing and taking up space on my disk. I finally end up uninstalling those programs.

The first thing I do is turn system restore off, so it saves me space. Also I turned indexing off.

normal windows indexing should not cause you any trouble but yeah live search index a lot and does not really make much sense the way it does it...

i dont recommend turning off system restore as it can be quite handy from time to time. i recommend just limiting the amount of spce so it doesnt create that many partitions for back up.

I agree. I highly recommend keeping it on but just limiting the space it consumes. It's saved my *** enough times already.
