I managed to get my idle temps on my CPU from avg. 45c to 38c. I polished the plate for the CPU and north bridge surface (It is north bridge right?). I also put some Artic silver 5 paste and removed the Dust catcher on the CPU inlet duct.
I also changed the GPU to as5+ as well. doesnt get as hot as before either but not as much of a drop as the CPU. I believe that the heat exchanger for the GPU's could be bigger. there is eneough room for another pipe to go to the plates.

you know you voided your warranty when you did this right?
i did the same thing on my m15x but with OCZ Freeze -
I was thinking of getting the ocz freeze, and i flashed my bios with the OCZ one as well. but i can feel the air flow better with the mesh removed on the CPU.
-
My cpu temps are extremely low. It idles around 32c and the max i saw it go was 50c. Wish there was a way to lower the GPU temps instead of having it hover around 78-85c when playing games.

maybe someone needs to make a better heatsink/cooling solution for the gpus. there is room to do it on this laptop. not to much, but eneough for another pipe to go to the GPU. i wonder how much a replacement one would cost to tinker with?
-
Just use a water cooled heatsink for them.. And when someone figures out how to do it then lemme know.
-
hook a desktop cooling rig up somehow...
-
you really want to carry around a pump with you?
-
mini freezer designed in a way that only the screen can come out
-
-
Theres a bonus with that cooler
u can always carry your beers with you
-
but you know -
No cooler for you!
-
I promise NO BEER -
Yea looking for a way to cut a few degrees from my GPU's too, not that i really mind since even at 85c i dont have any issues. But still, lower temps means they last longer (hopefully)
-
i average aroun 80 max playing Mass Effect at max settings. It would be funny to carry around a big pump for cooling your laptop, or even a mini fridge. If i could get my hands on another gpu cooler i could fabricate something. I work in aviation so i have access to alot of equipment.

http://www.killernotebooks.com/executioner_sr/executioner_sr_heatsink_mod.html
They don't sell it aftermarket to anyone that doesn't buy the Whitebook from them but it's good for ideas on how to mod something less fancy on your own. -
its worth a shot. but i need a new cooler to tinker with, incase something happens mine is not borken.
-
Really you shouldn't be doing anything physically directly to the current cooler tubing only adding surface area through contact.
Those K|N mods are separate pieces that sit on top of the existing surface area. They may or may not use thermal paste to increase the contact between the two surfaces.
I don't know how well it would work but if you've got an old motherboard you could work something out with a salvaged chipset heatsink. -
well i think this would run cooler with more surface area and 2 more coolant pipes.
-
Heat pipes means worrying about coolants and mods to the fan.
From what Ive seen from Nagamaki owners they're getting decent decreases in temps just from the passive cooling of the surface area mods and venting.
Then, if you haven't thought about doing it already, there's always the simple mod of adding new feet that jack up the notebook to increase airflow to the fans underneath. -
i dont think that is enough though.
Lowered M17 cpu idle temps..
