Has anyone had any luck or can anyone provide any advice on how the 5.1 out works on the M11x.

I only just noticed it has two audio out jacks and was able to watch a movie with my GF on the train, each of us with out own headphones! That was great, but how do I then turn all these audio ins and outs into 5.1 sound out?

    And advice would be appreciated...

    Hi,

thanks for the response, but what do you mean? A 5.1 capable headset with 3 jacks (F-LR, R-LR, Center, Sub) or a 5.1 capable USB headset?

In descriptions it says the mic can be retasked for 5.1, how does one do this? Can the second audio jack also be tasked for 5.1 i.e. to use a system with 3 analog jacks...

One jack I think can do 2 speakers. Right and left. I would guess it would be 2 x audio out total 4 speakers. a USB as a subwoffer.

    Best idea is call Dell.

Hmm I went on dell chat support and asked a rep, but he didn't know how.

If anyone figures out how to 'retask' the audio ins/outs to be 5.1 do let me know.

    Thanks,

    Riblau

Wow awesome I figured it out.

In the 'sound' menu in control panel, click 'manage audio devices' then click on the 'speakers' menu item.

The 'configure' box at the bottom left will become enabled, click on it and you get a nice drop down to set between 5.1 and 2ch. If you select 5.1, your 3 audio jacks become each of the 2ch for Front, Rear and Centre/Sub!

Very cool, looking forward to testing it out with some logitech 5.1s

Edit: The 'realtek HD audio manager' at the bottom of the 'hardware and sound' control panel list also lets you change this.
