I love watching movies when going to bed!

On my new M11x however, it is basically impossible to watch a movie without increasing the speaker volume every time the fan turns on.

Did anybody find a way how to watch a movie without the fan switching on and off every couple of minutes?

Depends on which GPU you use, the integrated or the discrete one?

But in any case, it's likely poor fan behavior implementation, which is observed by others here as well. Can hope that Alienware is aware of this, and releases a bios update that fixes it.

Use headphones until they release a fix.

Use the integrated GPU tpo prevent the rise in temp. which triggers the fan. Also the temp is going to increase if you have the bottom sitting on a pillow or blanket due to lack of air circulation. Also if you had your AC up the ambient tempo might be enough to lower the laptop temp preventing the fan from kicking on.

Yeah you were most likely "stuck" on GeForce, I use Sleep after I switch to IGP and in 99% of the cases, it plugs off GeForce.

Actually I had it on a soft table cloth that was sort of like a blanket (but not quite). Roughly speaking, during 5.5 hrs of watching HD movies on IGP, the fan would turn on for like 1 minute or so, every 30-40 mins.

I wish there was a way to control the fan so that it runs all the time at the lowest rate possible.

just have to deal with it man, i don't recommend messing around with the fans. everything is packed so tight together in such a small package, so there is going to be alot of heat.
